You should really read more about this situation.
You may think that the women have less rights - but if you look deeper & actually speak to members of this religon - you will realize that the women are much more powerful than the men & there must be protected.
I think that the women of islam can be the most intelegent women i have ever met & the beatutiful thing is this - you never create a pre disposed opinion of a person that you cannot fully see. This is the point - it is not what we see that is important - it is what we project that is the key.

The concept of "rights" is at the heart of your question. It is something that comes to us from the European Enlightenment tradition, where the idea that people have innate rights first began.
Islam, like Judaism and Christianity (to a lesser extent), is not a European belief system. It doesn't deal with rights the same way we are accustomed to looking at them.
Women in Islam have a special place, just like in Judaism and Christianity. They are not seen as equals to men, which is not to say they are necessarily lesser than men. But the Islamic view of women reflects the time when the religion came into being, and the problems every society has with gender relations.

We are sick and tired from questions like this. But I'm still obliged to clear things to you as I'm loyal to my religion. Men and women enjoy rights equally in Islam. When Prophet Mohammed was dieing, the last thing he said was, ''Take good care of your women.''
But in some societies, politics and culture just don't allow women to enjoy their rights as Islam said. So some women don't enjoy their entire rights because of some culture problem that is not supported by religion. To cut a long story short: Islam FORBIDS oppression.
Look, you need to go back to the Hadith (Prophet's teachings) and the Quran. I seriously don't know where to start coz none of what you have said is true.

Actually, they dont:) It is the fault of human interpretations of islamic laws here. One way of looking at it is the fact (hotly contested by some people) that islamic society, secular like turkey etc or strictly islamic like say pakistan is around 70 to 100 years behind Western world. Look at western world of around a 100 yrs ago and you will see issues like no voting rights for women etc, now add to that the fact that Islamists by earliest teachings are highly reluctant to change. Add to that the fact that over hundreds of years human bigotry added wrong things to it. Then you may begin to see one and only one of the possible views on this topic.
Not trying to explain it. There IS no explanation for NOT giving women equal rights, according to islamic or indeed any religious laws.

why do women have fewer "rights" in america than men? in both situations, it is because men are at the top of the social and economic power structures that define our lives. need they be? no. even now, woman are fighting for their "rights" (something of a dodgy concept, in truth, as noted above, though not, as erroneously imagined, limited to the west), in the middle east. perhaps, one day, man and woman will be equal, however "different" (don't even go into that)... but don't hold your breath.

If you looak at history you will find out that this thought is false. Because in 600s ( A.D.) in Arabia girls were being killed because of the fact that they were just girl and also they were slave . Islamic religion denies this thoughts . And the prophet Mohammed says that Girl childrens are beneficial. After Islam women can get their part from inheritance. I think this help .

You are mis-informed. The woman in Islam has a special place. She controls the house and the children. Her influence on her husband is far under-estimated.

Apparently you never paid attention in history class and saw that hardly ever has a woman risen to power and been the controlling force over men and not considered "lesser".

dear friend
You will find too many (cut-and-paste) answers about women rights in Islam. At the end of the day you will not find a real answer.
