I used to work in Southampton and was amazed by the number of Polish people. I live in Wiltshire and 90% of the people living around me are Polish. The signs in local shops, pubs and recruitment agencies are all in English and Polish.
They all seem very friendly to me and, from what I've heard, are very hard working. They are obviously doing a very good job and they're welcome here from what I've seen.
I think anyone should be welcome here to work or live (assuming they are not anti the UK) as long as they support themselves. I am emmigrating to Canada (UK is too crowded and overpriced) and the rules require me to prove I have a certain amount of savings or a job lined up before I move there. I'm sure the UK can adopt a similar principle.

The sad fact is they should really be in their own country helping to build the economy with Objective 1 aid from the EU for the most deprived areas of Poland.
Many will be thinking it will be the British taxpayer who will have to pay for this aid so Polish people may as well come here and pay income tax and aid our economy instead.
The point to remember however, is that all the people in the EU pay 1.2% of their VAT towards the EU budget and that includes new member states so it is self financing as areas of the UK also benefit from this policy.
The problem is that the UK government encourages immigration, as their policy is a low wage high profit economy. This policy was outlined on the Money Programme on BBC 2 in 1978 and recommended to Mrs Thatcher by Milton Friedman which she implemented. We as a result are stuck with it!

I live in Aberdeen & have been looking for a new job. One prospective employer told me "I can get a polish bird from an agency for five grand less than you will cost". Needless to say I did not get the job. Several friends are experiencing the same problem.
The employers are happy at the moment because they are saving money but will regret it in the future when the lack of skills required becomes apparent & theri businesses suffer.

Poland will not benefit from entering the EU neither will the next lot due next year as they are losing their young who will never return home the are often skilled workers or well educated ones. It will be years and years until Poland can offer the amount to pay they can earn here (and to our standard they are poorly paid here that's why the employers want them)

I definately do not have a problem with the Polish immigrants , the ones in the North East of England seem to be extremely hardworking and prepared to work hard and earn their own keep. What I do have a problem with is these other immigrants who come to this country purely to rake in benefits , free housing and free healthcare.

nothing wrong with being hardworking but when they may take the majority of the jobs in this country then what do we do. we are slowly becoming a minority in our own country. i'm all for someone bettering themselves but it should not be at the cost of someone else

I fail to understand how we can afford to look after all their needs, housing, education, health etc. They may well contribute to the state in the future but have not in the past but are still entitled to it all when we can't look after the elderly. Its bloody madness, is the EU going to give the UK the funds to look after them? if the answer is no then send them all back.
