Could it be fruit bats?

My bet would be a leak. But there are a variety of insects which drink nectar; hawk moths (otherwise called phoenix moths) look a ot like hummongbirds when they fly. There could also be bats, raccoons, oppossums which are getting to it.

no they don't. I'd bet on a small leak if you have one of those feeders that has a rubber stopper on the end. if not, something big must be tipping it and draining it out for it to empty that fast(i.e. raccoon).

Either they are or you have some other animal drinking it if it isnt leeking out. Maybe look up humming birds and go read about their behavior habits.
