Believe it or not; It is still legal to carry any weapon in New Orleans....So long as it is NOT Concealed. You would probably be arrested for disturbing the peace, or some such thing. My best advice if you plan on visiting is to use common sense. The crime rate in New Orleans is high, but the majority of the crimes are concentrated in local neighborhoods. Not in places a typical tourist would visit. Stay with friends, don't wander off drunk alone. You will find that the French Quarter is an amazingly safe and friendly place. Even in the wee hours of the morning, after having had a few.
Face it.....A tazer, or a knife is worthless after a few Hurricanes at Pat O'Brian's. Have fun!

Yes. But its illegal to carry a fixed knife over 4 or 5", buy a folding one. Or better, just hit a gunshow and find a cash and carry seller and get a gun that way if your right to buy firearms is gone. If your legal get a gun already, you dont need a conceal permit to defend yourself, the city your in has a history of not protecting their people.

Carry whatever you can legally. Call the police department there and ask.
