Don't give me rubbish about he has sacked pedophiles, he should really be taking these pedophiles to court. by condoning this behavior isn't he saying to all pedophiles come to the Catholic church as we will cover up your actions? And aren't Catholics condoning pedophilia by supporting their church?

'The Magdelen Sisterss' should be in your video shop but the tv drama 'sinners' was more accurate if you can find it.
over 30,000 were involved up till 1996...how old were you at that time?
How many of your friends, you or your sister could have ended up here.

The fact show that the pope and church has only ever been a supporter of rapist perverts be they priest, nuns or how about someone who had women raped by dogs for his pleasure. Namely ex chillian dictator General Pinochet

Plus the history of centuries of pope supported inquisitions and witch burners involving toture and rape...

Funny how its those who preach absteinance that get their sex thrils from abuse instead... says a lot that

The Church does not accept this behavior and although some Bishops trying to do the right thing in thier opinions did make bad choices,

But in general it is not nearly that large of number when you remember it is reported over and over on the news about sexual events from up to 30 years ago. So the percent per preist is fairly small and in reality other churches have exactly the same issues, and our public schools have a much higher number of pedophiles and assualts on our children,

But the church is active in cleaning up the issues and no people support the church because it is the church and while they may error at times, it is teaching the truth.

I am sorry you have a issue against them, I will assume you must have been abused by a priest when you were young to hold such hate, but it is far from all priests , it is only a small number. Sadly one is too many.

They cover it up because it is something too embarrassing or heavy for them to deal with. Catholics are in a cult and they don't even realize. Look at the rituals, who they pray to, their actions. I'm not trying to put down the religion because everyone has the right to believe what they want to believe but how can Catholics close their eyes to such horrible crimes? Some of the priests were punished by simply shoving them off to another church in another country. These priests have a real sickness and it is basically shoved under the rug. The whole thing is sick and it makes you really wonder about religion. Why would any one want to be a part of that?

You have to separate "the church" from the actions of a few bad men. These priests do NOT represent what Christianity of any denomination is about. When you talk about "the church," you are talking about a large group of people who believe in worship together. You can support that without supporting those sorry excuses for priests.

I know many Catholics in California who stopped contributing financially to their parishes for fear that their money would end up being used for court fees. I encourage any Catholics who feel this way (and I don't blame you!) to talk to the business manager of your church. In the two dioceses in which I have worked, absolutely NONE of the money from the collection plate goes to legal fees. And that can be documented legally and accounting-wise. If you are still worried, write on your check exactly how you want your money to be used. In California (and the entire US, I believe), this is a directed gift and by law must be used for that purpose. Any donor of this kind of gift can ask for an account of their money at any time.

As for the Pope, he does NOT in any way, shape, or form condone pedophilia. Just because he doesn't talk about it every week doesn't mean it is somehow okay. And in the Vatican structure, there is a "department" who handles thing kind of thing and I am willing to bet they are dealing with it every day - and NOT covering it up.

Yes, I would love to know the Official position of the Holy Roman Catholic Church on Paedophilia too.

There is a lot of hypocrisy from the Holy See.

And the same can be said on the position of the Catholic Church regarding many other subjects such as:

- The Inquistion
- Native American Genocide of millions in Mexico, Peru, and Latin America
- Slavery and the Slave Trade
- the Holocaust
- the Rwanda Genocide to name but a few.

Where was the voice of the Catholic Church when these events were occuring?

What happened to Love Thy Neighbour? Not to mention Mosaic Law - The Ten Commandments?

With all this blood on the hands of the Catholic Church, in comparison the Protestant churches have "clean hands".

The Roman Catholic Church also suppressed and destroyed - in one of historys biggest cover ups - many of the original and true doctrines and beliefs of early Christianity because they did not agree with the state policies of the Roman Empire. They were considerd too libertarian, subversive and feminist. These included the GNOSTIC Gospels and Scriptures - "belief by knowledge" as opposed to "belief by faith", and the Gospel of Mary Magadalene, thereby denying that a woman could be a Disciple, and so relegating and suppressing women in society.

Interestingly the fate of the Gospel of Mary Magadalene (and the status of Women) was decided by a Council of Bishops composed entirely of MEN, mainly Roman and Greek, under the direction of the Roman Emperor. Only today is the rightful place of women in Christianity being restored by the Protestant movement.

PS It is interesting to note that it was left to Non-Catholics and Protestants like William Wilberforce to fight for liberty and freedom in the great reforming movements of the 18th and 19th Centuries concerned with Moral issues such as The Abolition of Slavery and The Emancipation of the Jews. Where was the Catholic Church?

The Abolitionist Movement had support from Quakers, Baptists, Methodists and others, and reached out for support from the new industrial workers. But where were the Catholics?

PS Fr_Chuck what a sad Apologist you are. Unfortunately this "clean up" is almost 2,000 years too late for me.

Because, as with most civilised societies, the LAW is there to decide when a person is guilty of a crime and not a RELIGIOUS leader.

This cover up you are talking about....... the vatican secret service must be really bad at their jobs when all these people know about it..... or maybe they were too busy covering up the Da Vinci code?

If a person in another branch of the company or orginisation that you work for was found guilty of a crime, you wouldn't find the head of that organisation on TV apologising for that persons criminality, would they?

Should he be apologising for the crimes of Myra Hindley while he's at it? She was also a catholic, and at least she has been convicted.

Does anyone listen to the Pope anyway. But you are right the catholic church has a history of evil and wrong doing. Look at what they did with young girls in Ireland.

that's exactly why...because everyone else would think this is some kind of statement against Catholicism. no catholics aren't condoning pedophilia by supporting their church.

Because Roman Catholicism is a far cry from what kind of church Jesus and the apostles established and should not be associated with real Christianity for the most part.

Because it would bring the Catholic church down if he did. There's so much of it goes on the only thing he can do is maintain a dignified silence.
