I've had six lurchers now and they're the most laid back chilled out dogs ever, even the one I have now that's only 3 months old. I guess you've just got a mad one (in the nicest possible way!) and will have to be extra calm yourself to try and pass that on to him. Keep with it though - they're fabulous dogs once they've bonded with you.

all lurchers are different as they are crossed with a sighthound and any other breed of dog
if your lurcher as collie in him for example this may be the hyper part of him
sighthounds are not all hyper or need lots of exercise etc
take greyhounds, they are real couch potatoes and only need 2 twenty minute walks a day although they will go for longer

My lurcher is about 4 and she is hyper a lot of the time but then she wont emerge from her bed for a week i think you will just have to be patient, dont give up they are the best dogs they have loads of peronality.

I have a type of mixed breed that is nearly 3 what ever you do do not suddenly introduce a new person like a dog trainer it is usually knowing what methods to use I find the best one is inviting your hyper friend to the sofa with no one else around it gives him time to get to know you a little more and be a little calmer around the 1 person first before he gets introduced to any one else

Try putting him on a natural food diet which is raw meat and veg and raw meaty bones, lurchers can be very sensitive to additives in commercial dog food. I read the book below and my lurcher puppy has calmed down so much since following it's recommendations.(although he still has his moments)

This is a sight hound breed and they have huge exercise needs.
Way beyond what most people give them. They need to be able to run and burn off the excess energy. This is a breed that may be hyper it's entire life.
They were bred to hunt down game and run it until they caught it.
So they have great stamina and can run for miles.
Neutering may not calm him down it will remove the desire to breed and stop him from looking for females to breed.

It's different for every breed of dog. Some dogs never really calm down untill they become elderly. I would suggest getting some obedience classes for him. This will help more than anything else!

The best solution is to gain control over it. As someone already said, stop when you're getting there and relax. Pay more attention to pleasuring your mate--orally, perhaps--and avoid rubbing your penis up against anything while doing so. It will take work on your part and patience on both parts. As a last resort, some antidepressants curb sexual functioning with the intention of learning the pleasure of restraint after which you could taper off them. Here's your goal: the longer you can delay your orgasm, the more intense it will be. So it isn't just a matter of satisfying your mate. This is the main reason some claim stoned sex is better, unlike drunk sex which can leave you unable to perform (brewer's droop). You enjoy exploring each other longer. And remember, oral isn't just one place. It's all over, paying particular attention to kissing, and TALK about what each of you like. Strange how people don't talk about sex when they're the ones doing it.
