The last few weeks, my eyes have been puffy, itchy, tender and red. They look HORRIBLE. I took Benedryl every night for a week and they finally stabilized. I washed my face one night with an antibacterial soap and it all started again. I think that's what cause the first reaction. However, they are not going back to normal so easily this time. I've changed my pillow case, bought hydrocortisone cream, and keep taking benedryl at night. If I take it during the day I conk out! Help! Any ideas what I can do? I'd like to avoid calling the doc if it's something I can solve myself...

I already take Claritin daily. :-(
And the Visine I don't think will help--the itchy, puffiness is outside and around my eyes. On the lid and under my eyes.

Yes, well I have been battling this sort of thing for years. This is what helps me...bring two cups of water to a boil , when it is boiling add one teaspoon of salt simmer for for five minutes. When it cools, place the solution is some sort of container that you can put near a sink that will be handy. Take a clean cotton ball, with clean hands dip the ball into the solution and wash out your eyes. Do not re-use the ball..do this as needed.
Buy some Systane eye drops and YES they are the Mercedes of eyedrops and expensive but nothing else will do as well...trust me I speak from long bitter bitchy-uh-itchy experience..
Another suggestion that is employed in nurseries and nursing homes...use baby shampoo to wash your eyes.
Wet eyes with CLEAN hands and use a teensie tiny amount of no-sting baby shampoo...rinse well.

maybe solving means getting rid of that antibacterial soap as maybe it has ingredients in it that you are alergic to. (I didn't know you could or should use antibacterial soap near your eyes or on your face.)
Do you have a pet around that maybe the dander is irritating your eyes? Maybe there is something else alergic to your eyes like a room freshener. Have you changed laundry soap recently? Could it be a reaction to a (new) shampoo? Is someone (or you) smoking? If you find it has something to do with trees (maybe you keep your windows open) or flowers during a certain season that might be the culprit.
There are air purifiers you can buy if you want to clean the air and I hear they work very well. You can buy them for one room or several rooms (depending on how many rooms you live in, i.e. efficiency apartment or house) and then you keep the windows shut. You might want to get tested by your dermatologist as to what you're alergic to before you spend money on an air purifier.

The same thing is happening to me!! I just went through a series of allergy tests. I am allergic too everything. Are you using a new makeup or other beauty product? Orris root is in everything and it's highly allergenic. The combo between the end of summer spores in the air and something else may be triggering this for you. Oh my god, I am allergoc to cotton. No kidding. Looks like I'm wearing polyester leisure suits for the rest of my life. My point is, it could be anything. Try an exclusion process and when your eyes get better, you'll know what it is. Good luck!

Unfortunately it seems like you've done all the right things that you can do. I would certainly consult an eye specialist. You may be allergic to something airbourne or something that you are physically coming in contact with. You may also have an eye infection. If it is the latter, you really do need to get your eyes checked out. Infections can spread and become real problems; sometimes even life-threatening problems if not attended to properly.

My son has had terrible allergies for many years and when he was little, I took him to an allergist who put him on Claritin. It is sold over the counter now, but back then you had to have a prescription for it. It is expensive, but it worked and gave him tremendous relief.
You might try it.

go to the drug store, they will have something for it . ask the pharmacist what is the best to use , they are very helping and don't charge any money, It will cost you for over the counter drugs.but, that usually alot cheaper than a doctor.
