I heard that the old tastement includes many horrible verses. However, through my reading in Quran I found a verse that seem to be horrific to me. It says [Al Maida 5:33]:

"The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger (Muhammed), is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land. That is their disgrace in this world, and there is still a heavy punishment in the Hereafter"

Can any Muslim tell me what does this horrible verse mean?

I am not a muslim but if I may answer.

If one refuses conversion then you are considered the enemy and all those things are possible against you.

Also used if one is living in muslim territory and is found not to cooperate.

Basically, anyone who is not a muslim is considered THE ENEMY!
