Cats amuse themselves. They don't require constant attention like dogs. They love you unconditionally. They love to cuddle. They do have personality even though lots of people don't think they do and they don't bark or drool or stink like dogs - which is the best things about them!

I love cats, and prefer them over dogs. I really like the explanation given on Meet the Parents:
"When you yell at a dog, his tail will go between his legs and cover his genitals, his ears will go down. A dog is very easy to break, but cats make you work for their affection. They don't sell out the way dogs do."
So I think it's because it's easy to make a dog happy, and gain its trust, but cats are a little more work, and some people think they are "snobby."

To balance the animal universe. Dogs are good and cats are evil.

Amen to that one!! I have found a use for them though. If you keep them outside, and feed them only enough to keep them around, they're great for catching mice and rats and other vermin, like moles too. We have field mice and moles out here in our country land, but, funny thing, I STILL ain't gonna have a cat around!! I can't stand spending one lousy cent for them. The last one we had was my wife's, and it got to be real old, and then one day one of our new dogs hurt it pretty bad by "playing" with it, so I got to shoot it in the head to put it out of it's misery. I had mixed reactions over having to do that, but I never had any bad feelings like I did anything wrong. It was going to die a very painful death within hours, so I did it a good deed, with my wife's permission and blessing. And in the back of my mind, there was some small pleasure in it for me too, however unpopular that "pleasure" might have been. God Bless you.

What's the point of anything really? If we don't know the meaning of life then how the hell are we supposed to know why we have cats?!

If you have to ask that, then just stay away from them, and let the rest of us cat lovers have them.
