A herald patch is the initial lesion of a skin condition called Pityriasis Rosea. A generalized rash appears 1-2 weeks after the primary plaque.

No bacteria, virus, or fungus has been isolated as a definite causal agent.

This should help clear things up.

"Rash on the torso and spreading to the limbs

Question

I have a rash on my torso that is like red raised scaly lesions - it is somewhat itchy but not too bad. The patches start as small red spots and then grow larger - the largest ones are about 2.5cm in diameter. However, it is spreading now to my legs and arms.

I thought it might be ringworm, but the doctor told me that it was some kind of a virus - he called it ‘harold's patch’ - however, I can’t find any reference to that anywhere on the web. He prescribed Lamusil, an oral antifungal treatment, even though he said it wasn’t a fungal thing. I’m a bit confused - can you shed any light?

Answer

Thank you for your enquiry, and the confusion here is that you misheard your GP. What he said was you had a 'herald patch’, which is the start of a fungal infection called pityriasis. This readily responds to antifungals and time, and you should keep taking these. You are not infectious, and can certainly find a lot on the web now you know what your doctor really said! I do hope this helps.

Yours sincerely

Dr Roger Henderson, GP "

You really need to read "Rosacea Free Forever" by Laura Taylor (also available in electronic format here: http://www.rosaceafreeforever.info ). It's about how to permanently cure your Rosacea naturally. I cured my Rosacea permanently in only 4 days after reading this.

Stop paying paying each month good money on creams. This is exactly what the pharmaceutical industry wants you to do! They want to milk money from you each month.

Art nailed it.

"Herald" patch, as in to herald (announce) an event.

Art! The herald answer rings...
