Some within the Mormon or LDS church used to practice it, but he is no longer accepted and is against the rules of the church at this time.

They are some seperate break off groups that do still practice it but it is not officially accepted or allowed.

But in basis, there is nothing in the bible against it, except for a requirement for a church leader, it was a practical way during some very hard times when most of the men were killed from war to have children and keep up the families. It has been pacticed by various groups thoughout history and is still used in some middle eastern nations.

Mormon is a nickname. Mormons are Christians. Polygamy has been practiced since the beginning of time. Abraham, David, etc. When the church was in the restoration process the Lord commanded for the growth and benefit of the church for this practice to occur. When it became hazardous to members to continue this practice it was then discontinued. The Church has always respected the laws of the land. Prior to polygamy becoming illegal it was widely practiced. To note also, polygamy wasn't practiced to gratify perversion, these men were noble men, sealed to their wives for time and all eternity by the decree of God and by no means was this done to demean or lessen the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman.

Mormons used to (and in some fringe elements still do) practice polygamy, just as many of the major figures in the Bible did.

They followed the example of Issac, Abraham, Moses, David and a host of other men that are considered godly in that book, and have several wives.

The church of latter day saints now prohibits the practice.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) practiced plural marriage (polygamy) from the 1830s to 1890. It was never popular among the Saints and even less so among the general population of America. The purpose was to take care of unmarried women and to quickly raise up a generation of Latter-day Saints. In the face of unrelenting political pressure, the Church was granted permission from the Lord to stop the practice because if we didn't, we would have effectively ceased to exist. The government, contrary to the constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion, disenfranchised the members, sent the leaders to prison, confiscated our properties and therefore it was better to stop one practice rather than to suffer dissolution of the entire church. God gave us the commandment and God released us from it. Any current practitioners are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If you read in the early chapters of Isaiah, it states that in that day (the last days) seven women will cling to one man saying let us be called by thy name to take away our reproach. I suppose that could be interpreted to mean that the practice will come back again some day.
Personally, I feel that women are basically more righteous than men and therefore, it will be necessary for plural marriage to exist in heaven, else many worthy women will not have the eternal mates they deserve. God will not withhold blessings to any of His children if they have earned those blessings. Since eternal marriage is the highest state of heaven, then how are all of His daughters going to have that blessing if there are not enough worthy sons in heaven to go around?

Any person of the mormon religion that is caught practicing polygamy is excommunicated from the church, meaning the church no longer accepts them as part of their religion.

muslims and mormons no longer practice polygamy. in islam, polygamt is only allowed if there is a huge war where many men die and their wives and daughters need someone to care for them.

don't judge.

Abraham is considered "the father of the faithful" and he had 2 wives.

Jacob is the father of the nation Israel, he had 4 wives.

I've got one wife. I pity those guys.

In the old days they practiced it, but stopped when Utah became a state. Some breakaway sects still do it, and they are very intermarried and marry off the girls far too young.
