Last year I cut up two old pairs of black tights and stuffed the feet and sewed it all together to make my baby into a spider for halloween. It was really easy, and really cute!

Hmmmmm, do they have pumpkin suits that do not have hats. I love those cute little pumpkin suits, but I cant remember about the hat. You might find better ideas in the dept. stores, or stores like Target, Wal Mart, K Mart in the clothing dept. around Halloween, because they usually have that age group more like clothing, rather than an actual costume, with mask, and hats, etc. That is about all I can think of. There are some really cute little outfits. Are you sure she will want to be a fairy when she gets older, I mean remember what that was all about. I can't even remember anything when I was 1 1/2 yrs old. the youngest might be 3 or 4. Good luck. I like Halloween and decorate every year. I don't take it seriously like it is demon possessed, it is just fun.

Take her to the store and hold up the costumes that you like, then let her pick one.
Don't worry if she'll want to be that later, there is no rule that children can't be the same thing more than once. Besides, she won't remember what she was at 1 1/2.

Is there anything she likes already? If she really likes a costume or character, then she can still wear it without the head gear. At that age, I would go with what you know she already likes, she'll probably be more willing to wear it than if it's something random that she doesn't know.

Maybe dress the whole family up as one theme, Western, pirates, Arabian, period dress (50's, 60's, etc...) Hawaiian, jocks & cheerleaders.
You said maybe a bug. How about a lady bug or queen bee with spread wings? It would still be kind of girly, since the wings are spread, and she wouldn't have to wear head gear for the look.

I think you shoud just go with whatever you think she'll tug at the least, and what she will be warm in.

Good Luck!

A pumpkin, flower, or what's really creative that will crush the other toddler compatition is an American Idol. As you said you really crush the ideas. But hey I mean seriously how cute is a little baby helping her mommy hand out treats in an American Idol outfit? (Blue baby outfit with the audition number on with a microphone baby bottle get creative.) Or you could try a flapper coustom which is adorable... but I mean most toddlers dress up in bees, or pumpkins, or fairies. It's hard to come with something. But even something as cute as a starfish would be ideal. Go ahead get creative.

Go to a local halloween costume rental. Check out what they have in her size and go from there. Unless you want to keep the costume as a momento. In that case, I suggest going to Jo-Ann Fabrics and looking through the pattern books, make the costume, or hire someone to make it.

Order a Anne Gedde book and pick one of her costumes. That what I did for my daughter. They have all different costumes and they are so cute. The lady that turns baby and kids into flowers, animals, all different sorts of stuff. Mine was the Anne Gedde bunny. She was so cute. Her costumes are really cute for the beginning toddler age.

when my twin girls were 2 i actually made their costumes....bought a sewing machine and the patterns....they were clowns....the fabric is easy to find because you can get bright colors with polka dots.....and its not expensive because at 2 yrs theres not much fabric needed due to small size...add face paint or make up (cheeks, eyes, nose, lips) tennis shoes with yarn pom poms (you make) tied to the tops of the laces with maybe some little bells like christmas jingle bells sewn around the ankles and/or wrists and to the center of the pom poms (one on each one will do)...nothing neede for her hair....just put it in a pony (if shes got enough to do so - one of mine didnt) she'll be precious

pumpkin...I always thought it was soooo cute to see little babies dressed as pumpkins. Something about their round cheeks at that age and the roundness of the pumpkin costume. It's so CUTE!
