it could be a HUGE reason why your so depressed... you work at night when everyone is out having fun and playing and goofing off... and sleeping...
you sleep while everyone is at work..
i'm assuming you probably feel really "alone"... that sucks and i'm sorry to hear that...

you might want to quit your job and work during the day like everyone else... it wont make you so depressed.. trust me on this..

oh, and if by any chance your a stripper, that's disgusting.

otherwise, have a nice day and hope you feel better soon! :)

Your sleep pattern is all screwed up. Clinical studies have proven that a lack of sleep can cause all kinds of physical and mental health problems. You have to get some real sleep or you could end up in a real bad situation emotionally. Maybe you should consider a new schedule. Or if that's not possible right now, take some time off to catch up on some sleep and rest. You'll feel so much better. Take care hon.

Whilst it isn't the precise cause of your depression, it will certainly have a profound effect.

The body obviously needs regular sleep, and the body generally has a 'night' clock and a 'day' clock, both of those clocks regulate different chemicals in the brain for different routines for the body (repair, regenerate, replenish etc for the night routine, perform, eat, drink, move etc for the day routine).

Seratonin and Dopamine levels are very sensitive to any disturbances in the circadian rhythm (body clock) and will find it very difficult to adjust to constant routine changes.

So, what can you do?
well, firstly, keep to a regular routine... dead regular, even on the days you aren't working... and make sure that you keep to the routine even when you Are working (no sneaky shopping or washing-up when you should be sleeping).

secondly, don't panic if you aren't 'sleeping' as such - make sure that you are staying motionless, and if possible, mindless... (classical music softly in background, or mindless TV).

thirdly, invest in occasional body treats like a back massage or head/shoulders massage from a qualified therapist, about every 2 weeks if you can.

lastly, try to make sure that you rest as much as you possibly can from 3am through to 5am as this is the point when the body goes into the lowest energy phase and simply concentrates on deepest sleep.

Other things to help?
Don't smoke any recreational drugs (affects the dopamine and seratonin levels baaaaadly!!)
Don't eat just before going to bed (stimulates digestion, pulls the body away from sleeping properly for an hour or two).
Slip into darker and darker lighting, try to tone down the lights so that for 5 minutes before you lay down, you only have the light equivalent of a candle...

Last but not least, speak to other accomplished nightworkers/ late shift workers, they will have routines that they have honed over the years... and take heart in the fact that it can take a long time for your body to get used to this.

And... for at least 6 weeks of the year (not all at the same time), get your body into bright sunshine to make sure that you don't become deficient in Vitamin D, (a common malady in nightstaff workers, as well as living like a vampire and having no social life!)

Best of luck.

Hell Yea, i worked rotating shift for about 16 years, it messes up your head, Irritable, grogy, lost, cranky, always worn down, always ready to kill someone, what do I eat, I have no appetite, no more coffee, I hate the smell of 7-11's and Dunkin Donuts, the smell of coffee brewing at 11:30PM before you go to work, It's 5am, I should be wanting bacon and eggs, I want roast beef and mashed potato's and gravy, social life is down the toilet, nobody calls when you're "OFF" work, they call and wake you up when you're sleeping...... I got a better job 8am to 4pm, about 2 yrs ago, my life is much better, sleeps a bit screwed up still but, I'll deal with it, I'll never work shift again in my life, not for $900 dollars an hour even, Fuggetaboutit, noway ace, ain't gonna happen captain ! Thats for Bats, not Humans !

Your "argument" is in accordance to an fullyyt pretend premise...taken to its logical end, the way you're suggesting employers respond to Employment regulation would have led to no individual providing a penny more effective than Federal minimum salary for ANY interest! there is not any ordinary Accounting distinction between 8 hours an organization will pay you to artwork and eight hours they pay you in "paid holiday", in the journey that your rivalry had ANY advantage, then employers would not grant every person paid holiday days, both! "youthful college childrens like you" will be smart sufficient now to not artwork for this way of scummy organization who would search for to benefit on not providing their workers a honest & sensible advantages kit....except they extremely at the on the spot are not noticeably intelligent, in which case they could not be dropping their time going to school!

Yeah it just might. But before you make any conclusions, evaluate the other stress factors in your life. And, have you made any attempt to alter your sleep schedule.Go to sleep earlier or make yourself stay up later for starters and work from there. Also look at your diet. What we eat can also affect our mood.

That could be it. If you don't like your job then it is possible to get depression from your work conditions because it is messing up your life schedule.
