If you've ever watched Band Of Brothers, you'll see they are made up of both good and bad human beings, both of which are capable of heroics and equally capable of huge mistakes.

To say the Army is all good, and we oughtn't hold them to a high standard just becaue it isn't patriotic to question their individual actions, is dangerous.

I still think, and the events of the National Guard Kent State Murders of May 4, 1970 prove, that most soldiers would do whatever they were told to do, including enforcing a martial state over all America. And with their advanced weaponry and "Patriotism" vs. our hand guns, hunting rifles, and copies of the Bill of Rights we would be helpless to stop them.

I have been seeing the army in a more negative light lately because Bush says they're the ones calling the shots in Iraq before, during, and after the war, and Iraq is totally screwed up. They supposedly told him it would just be a couple of weeks and not many soldiers were needed and it wouldn't cost that much. Well that coudn't have been more wrong.

Also because many Republican servicepeople said that democrats are not welcome to support the troops if they are against the war. I think they have gotten out of hand and there needs to be a change at the top at the Army. They have forgotten that they serve the constitution and the people and not any one particular party. See the comments by bobby below if you have any doubt about their loyalties.

I wish we could rely on the Army to be honest. Now they are playing politics and telling us BS stories like the war is going well and that there is no civil war, and the Iraqis are doing a good job at governing, and that the terrorists are on the run.... etc...

Someone should be held accountable for the screw ups in Iraq and the lies that are being told by the top Army brass.

The ARMY is a positive! 15 year veteran, could have retired but the Democrats (Clinton) decided to have a draw down and screwed me out of 5 years.

The Armed services develop Integrity, team work, courage, self discipline and many other traits that help all young men and women be successful later in life. The forces afford the opportunty for college, home loans, business loans and other financial aids.

But the thing I most miss, is the friendship that I shared with my fellow soldiers. I have yet to this day found that type of bound with any one that has not been in the service. The bonds you create in the military are lifetime. I am still in contact with friends I have not physically seen in over 12 years.

Each person has to make their own decission to join the forces. As to which one is best. In my opinion it depends on what career you want. IE: Telecommunications - Air force, Heavy vehicle mechanic / driver - Navy and Army.

So decide what career you would like to have when you have completed your tour of duty and select that force to serve in.

One last note to all you wanna be politicians out there. If you have family in the services. You want a Republican in office, I saw both sides during my service. The Democrats are bad news for our service men and women.

The army is a positive force in our country and worldwide. They will be at ever large scale natural disaster in the world helping whoever needs it. Our politicians may only see a military strike force, and our media may portray that as well, but the people in the armed forces are there to help people and defend their country.

I think we have the greatest Army in the world, but it is our leaders that are screwing them around. As an ex-military guy, I really feel for these guys in Iraq and Afganistan. They are the best trained in history, but under the circumstances they are haviing a terrible time figuring out what is the right thing to do.

army is positive because you learn values, manners, etc. the negative side of it is all branches, to include Army, brain wash you. you are, when you sign the dotted line, "government issued" and nothing else but you and the government matter...so, if you have a family...stay the family person you are...the military, in my opinion is for those that are single and ready at a moments notice.

Armies are destructive to those against whom their wrath is directed, of course. But people virtually everywhere approve of their own defenses and their own "army" or tantamount army - in its putatively defensive function. We must always remember the subordinate nature of military entities generally. They do not themselves make decisions about whom to fight, or where. The soldiers are subaltern. The subordination of one's independent will or spirit within some authoritarian organizational structure is, for me, always anathema; it forms part of my disdain for fundamentalism of any kind. The hope of the world lies in each person having the opportunity to answer to conscience alone.

Possitive! I comend all young men and women who want to serve their country. All the branches have great stuff to offer. Of course I am partial to the Navy. But it is well worth the time spent.
