Hi Pauline! I do not know if there is a law but I'm doubtful there is. All i can say is that those people are jerks for not giving it back to you. Maybe you can ask your neighbors if you can visit the cat three times a week or offer to babysit the cat when they go on vacation! Just be thankful that the cat is in good hands.

I don't think there are any laws that are going to help you out in this situation. Since the cat was a stray and you found it, only to lose it, you aren't really the owner. Since your neighbor already took the cat to the vet, it is on record that the cat is their cat.
Why not go to the local shelter and get a kitten you can raise.

Actually, knowing cats, the cat found you and then lost you. Too bad about your neighbor, not a nice thing for them to do. But I don't think there is much to do since you didn't buy the cat nor have any kind of papers. I just don't know. Good luck!

People don't make laws about this sort of thing. You can hire an individual lawyer to pursue it and I wouldn't bother.

There are so many needy cats. If you want one to love go to a shelter and pick out a cat. If you let the cat go outside be sure to have an indentification collar on it or have it microchipped. That would make you a "legal" owner.

I have been given the two one among my cats from shelters. It relies upon on no be counted in case you adore your cat with a deep burning interest. in case you get the cat determine you deliver it to the vet first for a verify up and any vaccination needed. it could make it ok via fact's a no-kill shield. in my opinion i could get the cat via fact i admire animals.

No ownership laws apply here, I am afraid. It is good that the cat has been taken care of and is in a good home.

You do not OWN a cat. It OWNS you. It just tried you out for a while, and decided he liked the neighbors better.

Well by your story there's a good chance that if you took her to court you would be able to get her back. Just try taking them to court. That's messed up. You have jerk neighbors. Good luck!

No - you probably can't have her back. She has a new home. She is happy. Leave her there. Nothing says you can't go "visit" her. Besides - look at it this way! You were left to be a "Mom" to another kitty!
