NO, it's too dangerous in too many ways.

If she is a licenced rider and is using a helmet (for a novice its the first year in most states) then absolutely I would. She has to learn somehow and it wont happen if she just looks at the bike. Most states dont let anyone with less than 1 year of riding out on any freeways or interstates. She has to understand if she does ride where she is not allowed and gets caught she can also lose her regular drivers license and if anything happens while she is out, insurance co. wont cover any damage (if shes riding where shes not allowed).

It depends on the girl. How responsible is she? Some 17-year olds are very responsible and others aren't. And also, how good a motor-bike driver is she?

At 17, she should be mature enough to do that. If she had a car, would it be such a problem then?
You can't wrap them up in cotton wool, no matter how much you might want to. The best bet is to talk to the girl, just ask her to be careful, ya know?

If she's proven herself to be careful and trustworthy, sure. However, if she's the type to go off and do things that she knows her parent wouldn't approve of within reason, then no. I do agree about safety precautions needing to be taken, though. Her parent should make sure that she has a helmet and proper clothing to ride it.

I don't see how it's any different from driving a car, in terms of her likelihood of wrecking. As long as she's following proper safety protocol and being cautious, she should be fine. Just tell her not to allow anyone else on, and to wear a helmet and follow traffic laws, and she should be as safe as she's going to get.

Not unless she took a motorcycle safety class and specifically obtained her motorcycle operators license... I don't care what state you live in... make sure she's wearing a helmet and proper clothing too!

there is nothing illegal about that, sure I'd worry about an accident but that could happen on a bicycle...if she is a safe rider, yes I'd let her...but then again, in my case her mom rides a Harley.
