No, I used to waitress. It would be nice to get some tips. I get it once in awhile. but this is how I think of it, Why would you tip some one if you had to come and get your own food? You are not sitting there to eat and enjoy their services of getting your refills, etc...

It is proper to tip for a to-go order. A wait person has to go back to the line and package your food, get your salad dressing, and whatever else. You don't tip the same as if you were in a restaurant eating though. A dollar or two depending on the size of the order is fine. It just says, I appreciate you getting this together for me so that I can run in and grab it. It's always good to show people they are appreciated.

yes it's expected. i use to work in a restaurant as a hostess and i sometimes got a to-go order.
we had to go to kitchen, put the foods in container. put salad dressing in other small container and make it ready to go.
ppl usually paid us 1 or 2 bucks and that was enough. no 15% tip is necessary. if they didn't tip us, we got mad cuz we thought it's rude and stingy.
however. if your order is pretty complicated like if it's for 5 or more ppl. you are expected to pay 15% tip.

Yes, but not the standard 15%. If you tip an additional 1-3 dollars they will be pleasantly surprised. Keep in mind, most people don't tip at all.

If there is a dedicated togo area then that person in being paid to do togo orders. It is still nice to tip them a few bucks on large orders- they usually are making minimum or just above. If you place your order through a server, you should tip 15% because that person has to pay income tax on all sales, including yours and they had to take time from their tables/ side duties to take care of your order. Packing a togo order is just as, if not more work than waiting on a table.

Personally, If there is a tip jar there and I pick up something to go, i will put a dollar in it. It will go to someone who had a part in making my dinner.

a tip is for refilling drinks and bringing plates and watching to see if you want something.
So no tipping is required for takeout.

I don't think so, because you're not being waited on while you dine.
