It has to do with the 'handshake' between the TV and the DVD player. HDMI allows for two way communication, however not all companies are as well versed in software programming. The result is odd connection quirks. Most likely the DVD is not receiving an audio capability signal from the TV when the TV is turned on first. Unless one or both of the manufacturers offer a firmware upgrade, you will have to have the DVD player on first. Sorry!

some issues. As others responded, any signal coming in to an HDTV could be upscaled to teach on the 720p, 768p, 1080i or 1080p reveal. the way it really is upscaled or upconverted makes a bigggggggg distinction. extra constructive high quality TVs will do it extra constructive and there'll be a lot less noticable distinction between the upscaled DVD and the common modern with element. evaluate: ---How close you're taking a seat to the television and --- --How huge your television is.--- even as you could sit % as a lot as a 768p high quality plasma it really is over 50 inches, ANY flaws contained in the image will be noticable on a lesser high quality plasma, liquid crystal reveal or dlp of that length. For smaller TVs, or in case you usually sit extra away, you'll likely observe plenty a lot less. when you're growing a funds television, be particular to get the upscaled DVD participant. And... be particular that you've a pair HDMI inputs so that you will be in a position to hook up your severe definiton television programming AND your upscaling DVD participant. TO GET THE UPSCALED image you could USE AN HDMI cable. the distinction between the image with the element cable and the upscaled image with the hdmi, is that you receives really blurrier image it really is noticable with the analog element cable. (in part for the reason in the different answer...it really is brilliant to maintain a digital signal digital exceptionally even as utilising a digital television like an liquid crystal reveal, DLP or Plasma-- as you may even as connecting with HDMI--it loses high quality even as it should be switched over from digital to analog and back back because it does with element cable connection). Upconverted DVD gamers have come down in cost to correctly decrease than $100. i trust that contained in the destiny, you'll observe the distinction. BTW, in case you do choose to purchase a 1080p television, be particular you get a good one in the different case, "some manufacturers attempt to diminish corners through utilising a procedure that makes use of the 540 lines of image advice from one field and discarding the subsequent field. the right result's a standard blurry image. it is in ordinary words one get mutually of ways the commonplace of the television makes a distinction.

If your DVD and TV each have a separate digital audio output/input, you may be able to select that to be active in addtion to or instead of the audio in the HDMI cable. then you would run a separate cable (coax or optical) for the digital audio instead of using the HDMI for audio.
