NYC Explorer, I have no intention of being ignorant in a public forum. I actually think for what it's worth that the Polish people so far over in the UK ARE beneficial economically to the country. I too have a Polish window cleaner and very good he is too. BUT the Polish people over here are putting strains on housing and social services - Slough and Southampton councils are already saying they have too many Poles and that central government isn't giving them enough money to meet the increased needs. My wife teaches in a local primary school and the E European children make up quite a large percentage of the new intake and their lack of English causes problems and holds back some British children. What's the right number - probably enough as is now. Also the polish people migrating to the UK are causing problems back in Poland and hindering their economy. The main problem is that the UK cannot cope with 600,000 people coming in every couple of years.

Once again some have descended to the gutter and launched personal attacks on myself by calling me a racist. This of course just weakens any logic to their argument.

Yes. However most are hard workers and have manners. The next two lots will be different we need to stop immigration now. New Labour has opened a nest of vipers and continues to stoke the fire. With 3million out of work get them back first then see what we need. Not the other way round let immigrants take money out of our economy and we pay millions in benefits to the unemployed.

I think there is enough, the now. The Polish are very nice people, they are all different though , some hard working , some lazy.. (come to our company) About 80% of our workforce is Polish.
All they are here for, is the money, they have all said that.
What they make here, in a week, they wont even make that in a month.. If our UK Government said they could come over and get jobs then we cant blame anyone but them.
If Poland was on £10 an hour and said we could go over, i would aswell.. It all comes down to money though.

I dont agree with them claiming the child support, especially when some of the children still live in Poland. If they live in Uk then yes, but not in Poland.

The UK is made up of many immigrants/former immigrants. There's an underlying reason why the govt is allowing this to happen, they do, after all, decide who they let in, to a certain extent.... Cheap labour, a bit like the Mexicans in the States. The Polish work hardand are generally nice people....

Its not just the polish immigrants,
Their is far to many of all of them here.
And if the government said 420,000, there must be 10 times that,
How about safe guarding our borders for a change, We have to fight to keep our own jobs and better conditions,The immigrants come along and do it for half the money.
I know that is not there fault its the [employer].
But the government helps them all the way, they will be chosen over you or me.
No doubt their will be a public out cry about what i have said all them tree hugers and do gooders, constantly the minority preaching to the majority all the PC, you can shove it where the sun don't shine.
Most of them probably work for government and are full of self importance anyway.Spending most of their time of sick or playing on the Internet.
I work with real people by the way and they all have the same opinion as me, its the talk of the tea shack, people are getting worried about there jobs and about Brittan and the way of life.
Why should we bow down to some one who wants to live in our country Why should we change our way of life to accommodate them.
why don't they change.
You cant say anything these days with out some one saying that you are racist.
What ever happened to freedom of speech..???
I no it says polish but i am speaking about all of the asylem seekers, the majority do assimilate british culture and that is good
Its the ones who have no intention at all.
there own little country inside of ours.

No there are not enough Polish immigrants in the UK, We need double the amount, they are intelligent, polite and very hard working. The more we bring in the more work shall be done in the UK as they will do the jobs that our own people don't want to do, because we British think that many jobs are beneath us. The Polish people will work, pay taxes and put the economy of Britain back on its feet again, just as they did after the 2nd world war.

Well that depends on there outcomes. If they are hard workers and drive the economy with cheap labor then maybe no, but if they are causing trouble like the illegal mexicans are in the US then maybe so. Look at the outcomes and then base your opinion dont know much about the UK's situation although i do know that almost all construction workers are polish and that a lot of them go there to work and then return to their families in Poland.

I think it is more like 600,000 but my answer is NO there are not too many, They adapt to our lifestyles learn the language do not sponge off of society and make a valuable contribution to our country, I would rather 1 Million Polish than all of the other immigrants that live off the state!

I too have a window cleaner, but he is from glasgow and retired. He supplements his meagre pension, fought for this country and his round is getting smaller and smaller as other's poach his round with cheaper prices.

In many parts of Europe it is not possible to have an english speaking child educated under the state system. In Britain education is available to all free.

I'm sure the cost of having cheap labour in this country is offeset by the enormous cost of housing and other benefits to immigrants.

It could only happen in Britain, that outsiders who havent paid a penny in tax to this country can receive everything on a plate.

The figure of 420,000 is for the total number from the new EU states not just Poland. The important thing is they are here to work and they do. East Anglia has absorbed the biggest percent of them (15% compared to Londons' 14%) the rest have settled elsewhere. If they are in employment and paying their taxes they are actually contributing to your pension. With a falling birthrate this country could have serious problems ahead the immigrants coming in may just help us prevent that.

Did the government "admit" its figures, as if it was previously keeping a secret? Or are you interpreting the government's statement?

Just out of curiosity, what is the downside of having too many Polish immigrants? Polish cusine will run amuck? The English language will suffer irreparable harm?

While we are on the subject, how many Polish immigrants are "just right"?

I admire your willingness to be ignorant in a public forum.
