Just remember this:
Any time you mention "wedding", prices double or triple. Call a local bakery and ask for a 3tiered stacked plain white wedding cake (which you can then decorate w/ real flowers). Say it is for a bridal shower and you just want to be cute. The price should be around $90-$150. Ask the same bakery for a "wedding cake" same size etc. and you are looking at about $600-$900 for 150 ppl (3tiers usually).
The same applies w/ favor tins and any other item w/ the word "wedding" attached. Wedding tins for favors at say Michaels are about $1.15 each. The SAME tins can be purchased from a school supply site www.specialtybottle.com (i think). They were like $.50 each!
This is something to think about EVERY time you buy something specifically for a wedding. Obviously some things cannot be hidden/skimped on. (A gown is obvi. for a wedding and a DJ will need to know it is a wedding etc.).
Good luck! :D

Go to the book store. There are plenty of books on how to cut the costs. I know that I had my wedding within three months of getting engaged. So when I called the halls if they had an open date I would take the info from them. Then call them back and tell them what deals other people were giving me. Some were giving free wedding cakes, invitations, percents off. They were fighting for me to have my wedding at thier place because they needed to fill the date.

Michael's, JoAnns and many other craft stores have wonderful ideas and even how-to tips for diy wedding "stuff," but I've found great ideas with Martha Stewart. Many of the ideas on her site are fairly simple to pull off. Here's a link for you

Check out Michaels http://www.michaels.com/art/online/static?page=wedding and DIY Network http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/cr_wedding/0,2024,DIY_13783,00.html for some rather "crafty" suggestions.
