whats the relevance of the writings on a dogtag?

First Initial, then Middle, if it applies. Blood Type
SSN#
Branch of military, In my case, USMC, then gas mask size
Religous Preference

On all military dog tags:

Name
Serial # or Social Security #
Blood type
Religion

Like dental records, and finger prints another way to ID you. If wounded, and medevac'd blood type helps Dr.'s with right blood type. Religion helps with last rite's, and proper handling of the body as to not offend.

The main important info is name (for identification purposes) religious preference (for chaplain to know to give last rites f something were to happen) and blood tyoe (in the case of needing to be given blood)

Name, number, blood type and religion. If you are captured only yyour name andserial number are known to the enemy. If you are wounded your blood type. And religion so they know which Chaplain to call.

Person's name (Last, first, middle initial)
Rank
Branch of service (USA, USN, USAF, USMC, USCG)
Service number
Blood Type
Religious affiliation, if any

They are made to identify the body. They don't carry wallets, This tag has their blood type incase of an emergency ect.

I think allbranches of the military tags havethe same info on them... name, branch, religion, social, and blood type
