I'm just wondering because I'm not really depressed at all, but whenever I think about being dead it makes me happy. I've come to the decision that I'd rather get life over with instead of living away for another 30 years.

I've weighed the consequences of what I would miss out on and the effect the decision will make to those around me, and I still feel the need to be dead. I'm not religious at all and if hell, reincarnation, non existance or whatever happens awaits me I'm fine with it.

As far as I know I dont have any mental conditions and as I've said I dont have depression, I'm a pretty apathetic guy. I got friends and enjoy most of the day. I'm just wondering if this kinda thing is common I guess.

Apathy is a sign of depression. I think you are depressed, but it's so low grade you barely notice. (I've had that for years and thought about death and suicide constantly). To answer your question, no suicide and depression are not hand in hand. There are lots of cases of suicide for honor, suicide at the result of no other option (person has terminal illness or is going to burn to death and would rather jump) And depression is not always coupled with thoughts of suicide.
HOWEVER, thoughts of suicide like you're describing are ALWAYS a symptom of depression. You're having difficulty deriving joy from life and excitement about your future. You should talk to a counselor or therapist. Look at it this way... you've got nothing to lose by living a little longer and figuring this out, but you lose everything when you die.

apathy is a huge sign of depression. and being depressed doesnt mean that you dont experience any happiness at all. it just means that overall you are not as happy as you could be. It is possible that you have dysthemia, which is a kind of depression. You are constantly a little depressed, but not enough to be seriously ill. If you "feel the need to be dead" then you MUST talk to a professional as soon as possible. if you really wish you were dead then, yes, you are depressed whether you know it or not.
When I was very depressed, I still hung out and had fun with my friends. But I realized later that I was trying to overcompensate for my sad feelings.
Please talk to a doctor or go to your nearest hospital.

Have you considered that you just might not fear death but don't necessarily want to die. It just seems to me that if you are happy and enjoy life, you wouldn't want to end something that gives you joy. For the most part, we live for happiness, even if, in some cases, it makes up only a small part of our day or we can only find glimpes of it. Wanting to die usually goes hand in hand with hopelessness.

Even healthy people, however, have fleeting thoughts of suicide from time to time, but this usually doesn't translate into any further or into action. Have you thought about killing yourself?? If you have, I think that it may be wise to talk with a professional someone to sort out how you're feeling and why.

I don't believe so. I also don't believe suicide is for cowards. It takes a lot of balls to pull something off like that.

I've often felt the same way. Why bother. This is just a big waste of time. So far, I haven't acted on it though.

there is a link between the two, but being depressed doesnt necessarily make you suicidal. people who commit suicide or try to commit suicide typically are somewhat depressed or are in somewhat of a saddended state, but just because you are depressed doesnt mean you are thinking about killing yourself. alot of depressed people experience sadness, fatigue, wanting to be alone...but dont try to kill themselves. either way, you need to find some help and find it fast. you need to talk to someone about your feelings - not necessarily a psychiatrist but maybe a therapist or psychologist just to talk about things. you dont necessarily need medication but it may be an option for you. please seek some help soon and talk to someone about these feelings because it would be tragic to have you act on them.

There's a HUGE difference between depression and being suicidal. Suicide's for cowards. It takes alot more guts to hang in there and make your life better.
