It depends on the cause of acne, for a lot of girls/women acne can be a result of hormonal imbalance in which case taking Evening Primrose Oil on a daily basis would help a lot, also using black cohosh or vitex would probably help a little if it is hormonal as well.
Some acne issues can also simply be a result of diet, so it may be an idea to talk to a doctor to get blood tests done, better still would be a doctor who practices 'alternative' as well as conventional medicine as they would be more likely to address your body as a whole rather than the individual area of skin as well as be more open to natural remedies. An increase in zinc, vitamin C and vitamin E should help you, I would also suggest stepping up your iron intake, reducing your salt intake and perhaps taking flax seed. The skin is a major exit point for toxins from your body, it may be a good idea not only to look at your diet but also look into detoxing.
Oil Cleansing Method [OCM] is something I use myself with great success and I know a lot of other people use it not just for spots but all round skin health so I recommend it to everyone – in my case I primarily started using it to deal with oily skin and flaky skin, the fact it cleared up my spots and helped to heal up old acne scars was just a benefit.
This works on the principle I went into above, you strip your skin of the oils then your body will overcompensate, this method is literally using oil to cleanse your skin.
Most people start out with 50 % Extra Virgin Olive Oil [EVOO] and 50% Castor Oil [CO], the EVOO is moisturising and the CO is cleansing – if you have really oily skin you may want to start with a slightly different mix say 25:75 EVOO:CO because that means you are getting more of the cleansing oil. Another VERY good oil to use is Jo-joba oil because it is very similar to the natural oils already on your face – I recommend you try the EVOO:CO mix and if you find your skin reacts well to that (or if it reacts badly – which I doubt it will) then switch over to 100% Jo-joba oil, this is what I have been using for the past five months.
Basically what you do is whenever you need to clean your face you take the oil and put it onto your face, you then take a face cloth that has been in very hot water, wring it out and then put it on your face for a minute, and you then wipe off the oil. Basically the oil acts as a cleanser to take all the filth from your skin, and the hot face cloth helps open up your pores. You then use toner to help close up the pores again and remove any excess oil you may have missed and moisturiser – these are not necessary, but it is very good to use good natural toners and moisturisers no matter what you do with your face to wash it.
With OCM you have the benefit of something that gives you really nice moisturised healthy skin as well as deals with most skin problems, but it is also very cheap given as most oils can be bought just from your supermarket, it is natural so healthier for you, not tested on animals so it is ethical, but also it is totally customisable – so say if your skin starts to get dry you just change to a better oil or change the basic mix to include the more moisturising oil (EVOO), you can customise it daily, you can also add essential oils such as lavender or tea tree oil that can help deal with preventing spots and healing your skin.

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.
In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.
Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.
In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.

ok, I get sickened when people make up answers that are disgusting-please ignore them. To answer you in a real way, there are no easy quick fixes for acne. There are a lot of products that can help, but most help the acne that you have at the moment and not the ones forming under the skin that will keep returning. Don't use a needle, that will scar your face. Absolutely do not use sand paper. I have used toothpaste and it does not always help...sometimes it helps take the red away, but does not dry out the zit... as does aloe vera plant. I learned most of this by reading information on the proactiv website. The basic skin care routine:
cleanser, toner, moisturizer
proactiv has this, clinique has this and many other lines at the drug store offer all of these tailored to the type of skin you have. So, make sure you are washing, and then using a toner and cotton ball and a moisturizer. Sun screen helps too. If this does not help, you may need to see a dermatologist and combine your routine with a prescription. Best of luck to you...and to all of us who battle with acne.

I struggled with acne for years and I finally found the solution that works for me. We have been fooled, tricked, deceived, and just plain lied to. It's time that someone put a stop to it, and everyone learn the truth!
Those of us who suffer from acne have usually been given 2 choices and neither of them work:
1. Over the counter remedies such as cleansers, creams, ointments, etc. These things have been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.
2. Go see a doctor and or dermatologist. They will generally prescribe prescription drugs which include topicals and or antibiotics. This, too, has been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.
I found a step-by-step program that cured my acne and it has never come back. It is amazing and doesn’t use any drugs or doctors. The truth is that acne can be cured…if we know the secret the doctors and drug companies don’t want us to know.

A lot of people recommend those small sun lamps ( you know, the ones you can get off e-bay) , but Acne is usually caused by an oily skin condition quite normal during adolescence.
Both my son, and daughter suffered to a lesser degree, but it was helped considerably by ensuring a good supply of vitamin C and fresh vegetables was always on hand.
My daughter used a light astringent which helped to remove the oiliness and always kept make-up to a minimum.
Hopefully like most, the sufferer will grow out of it as hormones come back into balance.

yep - there are truly some awful answers here, but yes, the truth is, if it's proper acne, then it's more likely to be a hormonal imbalance - which is why it afflicts teenagers more than anyone else... if that's the case, no creams or facial 'cures' will work.
However, yes, there is a strong link between nutrition and skin conditions.... Essential Fatty Acids being one of them (green lipped muscle capsules) and Zinc, the nutritionists save-all vitamin! very small amounts of Zinc will help and it's a cheap 'off the shelf' vitamin. You could even go for a standard all round multivit to help in this situation.
Limit your dairy and sugar consumption as they appear to aggravate acne.

Try baking egg shells in the oven for about an hour at 250 degrees. Grind them into a fine powder and load it into some gelatin capsuls. After a few weeks you will no longer have acne.

I have suffered acne so much as many of you have had.
I had tried everything such as pills, crème, lotion, those are made by brand name companies, but I was so stressed because they didn’t work.
One day, I knew aloe is good to treating acne, and one of my Korean friends told me of a product called Aloe Enne from Namyang Aloe.
I tried it several weeks, and I am so pleased about the result.
After cleaning up my face, I put it on my face, and it feels like my skin gets much moist and healthier. I think aloe really works.

Ok you rub your skin with sugar and a bit of lemon juice, rub it until it gets a bit pink, then wash your face, put some oxygen water on your pimples, let it dry. After that use any basic cream or moisterizer, like lubriderm or neutrogena, and on the pimples that are big, red and kinda young put a bit of toothpaste, leave it through the night.
