You can feed the cat cooked rice mixed with a little bit of chicken until its poop firms up. If this does not help after a week, see the vet and have the cat checked for parasites, etc.

Our cat had constant diarrhea, and this is what the vet told us to feed her, so I know it's OK.

BTW: Do not put any seasonings in the rice and chicken, or you could make the diarrhea worse.

It depends on the age of the cat of course, if it is a kitten it will take a while before the cat's stool softens up, there diet is changing form liquids to solids.

Also, try just giving the cat hard food, and make sure that you monitor that the cat is drinking a enough water loose stool is a form of dehydration.

Check the fecies for white strings (there is a possiblitly the cat may have worms.) Very easy to take care of.

If the cat seems lethargic (out of it) then it is best to see a vet. Sometimes you can just get a stool sample and have them analyze it. Most of the time it is infact just the food.

all answers ( for the most part) are great , but i must agree start with a sample to the vet & a check up . hopefully you know what cat it is ( i have 3) my 1 cat gets the runs after she has eaten too much of a spesicl treat ( like clleaning daddy's ice cream bowl when he leave a little extra in the bottom of the bowl) but it clears after just one BM. my first kitty i had i adopted @ 17 weeks old & he had the runs all the time..after 2 months of vet visits & switching vets he was diagnosed with FIP & died by the age of 8 months,,,then i had to wait 6 weeks befor getting another cat due to allowing time for the germs to die off that were in the house ( among steaming everything & bleaching what could be bleached) Sorry to ramble on but i can't tell enough cat lovers about this , something so samll as the runs can be so serious. after diagnosed he went down hill fast!!so please takee kitty to the vet....

You can try canned pumpkin (straight pumpkin, not pie-filling). Strangely enough the pumpkin can be used to help diarrhea and constipation. I guess because it adds volume to the stool. Cooked winter squash is also good. Any of these can be frozen in ice cube trays, then thawed for handy little treats for the cat.

This cat could have a condition called Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS, sometimes IBD). You should have a vet evaluate your cat if the pumpkin, squash or the good chicken and rice recipe that another poster mentioned doesn't help clear the problem.

What are you feeding your cats? If you are feeding them wet food then you should try switching them to dry, start off with a mix of the 2 to ween them off it and then go to straight dry food.

If this doesnt help you should contact a vet, having runny poos is not healthy for your kitty.

Do you feed him/her canned or dry? If you are feeding canned, switching to dry food may help. However, this problem could also be caused by disease, such as worms. If disease is the problem, then your other cats are also at risk. Take your cat to the vet, and soon, or you could end up with 4 sick cats.

It could either be the food, its not agreeing with your cat. Or it could have some type of parasite. I would take a stool sample to the vet ASAP to get it tested. You dont want your other cats to get it.

Make sure your stool sample is from the sick cat and not contaminated with the other cats.

take the cat off of dry food for a day or two and feed it warm oatmeal... the vet said it is the best way to get rid of the runs for a cat or kitten.

If you are feeding your cats milk, I'd say the milk doesn't agree with it. Try changing to cats milk (in the pet food aisle).

If that doesn't work, take it to the vet, it may be sick.
