This is a very good question.

The church of Christ is the church that belongs to Christ. (Matthew 16:18)
The church of Christ is the church that was purchased by Christ. (Acts 20:28)
The church of Christ is the body of Christ (Ephesians 1:22-23), and there is only "one body" (Eph. 4:4)
The church of Christ is the bride of Christ. The bride honers the groom by wearing his name. The church of Christ honers Christ by wearing his name and a name found in scripture (Rom 16:16).

(Suppose, for example, Mr. Smith asks his girlfriend to marry him. She agrees, but says, “Our friend Mr. Jones is a good man, so when we get married, instead of being called Mrs. Smith, I want to be called Mrs. Jones.” Would Mr. Smith have a reason to question her loyalty to him? Would he feel honored? Why would a bride wear another man’s name? Why would a church want to wear a man-made name? Whose name does your church wear?)

The church of Christ identifies themselves by name as a group that tries to follow the "doctrine of Christ" (2 John 9). In contrast, a member of a denomination is identified by name as one who follows the leadership and teaching (doctrine) of that denomination.

The church of Christ wants to follow only the Word of God without adding any mam-made doctrine.

The original physical church of Christ no longer exists. The teachings still do, but the original congregation (founded by the apostles who were "founded" by Jesus and therefore He founded the church) no longer exists.

As far as the true church of Christ, that you do have to find on your own. I believe it to be the Jehovah's witnesses, but you'll find people all over the place that will claim their own religion is the correct one and no one else's. Read the Bible, learn what Jesus taught (and the others of the bible, they were inspired by God), then find the church that fits in with what the Bible says, not what everyone else says. Then you will have found the true Church of Christ.

The Church of Christ is just another church

There are many entities that claim to be the church of Christ.
(I partially know, because I was raised in a sect that called itself 'church of Christ', and was a deacon in it shortly before I left it).
Since there are so many, let me ask you to briefly describe a few of the traits before I answer such. You can email me soon please!!!! Leaving it was one of the best things I ever did in my life to date. I am trying to show some where the Bible and 'the church of Christ' presently differ.

If you are talking about the conservative Church of Christ, which there are many, you should steer clear of it. It is a cult, they are independent of any other church and only want things done their way. Believe me, I, my husband and our daughter have had first hand experience with them in the past.
Find one that is liberal and you will enjoy it more.

Jesus is the Head of the Church.
The believers (those who follow christ as disciples) are the saints of God who are the Church.

This happend about 33 A.D. (Anno Domini, which is latin, for the "Year of our Lord")
When Jesus Christ laid his life down upon a wooden cross, and was hanged by nails til he died. He then was placed in a tomb, and three days later rose up out of it. Walked upon the earth, and was seen by men and women of the time for a span of 40 days afterward.
This happened in the city of Jerusalem in Israel.

He is God.

So if you profess faith and trust in the atonement (forgiveness) of Christ on the Cross for all your sins, then you are a believer, and by faith your are accounted as one of the Church.
