Don't listen to all that junk that your vet will tell you about taking care of a kitten, and giving it shots. Cats don't need shots. They are just about the lowest, and I mean the lowest maintainance pet there is.
Get some kitty food. Put a towel in a cardboard box outside on your porch. Play with the kitten several times a day. It will love you!
Or, if you want it to be an inside cat, give it a scratching post and a litterbox and a bed. After the kitten has it's first meal, show it the litterbox, and natural instinct will take over.
Or I can stop typing and you can go to the library and get a book on cats.
Good luck! *meow*

Don't go buying a pet. If you do, get something caged, like a SMALL rodent, not a ferret, they don't belong in tanks or caged for long. Don't go buyng a puppy or kitten either. Try volunteering at your local animal shelter, humane society, or animal control. Maybe get a part time job at a pet store. Don't buy something if you're at all afraid of it, try getting over your fear by helping out the homeless ones at shelters etc.

you should spend time with a friend's cat first, the cat will sence that you are afraid of it right off the bat and that's not a good way to start the relationship. once you feel comfortable with being around someone else's cat then after reading up on how to properly care for a cat and making sure you have the time to spend with the cat, the space in your house to keep the cat and the money for qualitiy food, litter and litter supplies etc and toys let a lone vet bills etc. then you should get your own.
Maybe talking to a therapist might help too.

Visit your local animal shelter and spend some time with the kitties. I think you'll find they are very loving and affectionate creatures, and there is nothing to be afraid of. You will have a sweet companion, and cats are very easy to take care of. A good book to brush up on basic cat care is the ASPCA Complete Cat Care Manual. Good luck to you!

You should volunteer at a local animal shelter/humane society. If you are uncomforable handling animals then a kitten is not the way to go. They can be little monsters :)
The shelter will get you comfortable with all types of critters, and if you hate it, then pet ownership shouldn't be an option for you.

I would get a book on cats, research on the internet how to take care of one first. Then you will know what you need to know to take care of it. You might also make some visits to the local pound to see some cats. They will let you take them out and pet them, it will help you get over your fear.
I've taken in both a pet rat and a pet snake before, and I was afraid of them at first. I just had to spend some time interacting with them and learning about them to overcome my fear.

I would talk to local animal rescue groups. Most of them will let you get a pet on "loan" and if it's not the pet for you, you can bring it back. They will also work with you to find you a pet you're not afraid of and teach you the basic care of the animal...Good luck!

You may want to spend some time with a pet of a friend or family member and get used to being around animals first. If you're scared of them, you're more than likely to abuse or abandon them.

You should do research on the care of cats and see if its something you think you can handle. Then go to a shelter in your area and meet some of the cats to see if you think you can handle actually being around one. You may meet one and fall in love with it!
