Catholic priests and nuns CAN get married if they leave their vocations. They just can't be married if they retain their holy orders. But they have chosen the life, accepted the terms. No one is denying them anything. They made the choice to remain celibate and unmarried.
The bigger "why" is so that they may be free to minister to all without preference for their own spouse and children. They are "married to Christ" and seek to do his will without any "conflicting loyalties."
It is complex, and I am not an authority on Catholic holy orders. If you are truly that interested, you can search papal encyclicals and other Catholic Church documents on the Vatican's Web site at www.vatican.va/.

All the way back in Roman Catholism priest were married. The cost of moving them and their families was too outstanding. So, they changed it to being non-married. As for the nuns, according to Catholism, they are already married to Christ. The Born Again community, which actually are all his saints (non-Catholic), will get married to Him at the marriage feast of the lamb. In other words, he will marry his church.
No one is married to him.

Good question. Even some of Jesus' apostles were married. Here are two Scriptures which say they should do so if they marry only "in the Lord"
1 Tim 3:2: "Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach--" NIV
1 Corinthians 7:9: "But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion." NIV

Because they devote their lives to God and take vows of celibacy, chastity and being married would violate both of those vows.
Joining the Religious is a personal decision and one that is not to be taken lightly. It was their choice to make and they knew what the "rules" are before joining.
I respect anyone who has that much devotion.

Tradition. Not for any Biblical reason.
Nuns are the Brides of Christ, so in a sense they are married. I wonder if Dan Brown considered that?
