Why are so many people promoting the Bible as an ecyclopedia Britianica volume? Is it the mystery volume never released, or what?
Isn't the Bible a compilation of stories?
Why do you put your faith in a book? Don't you think Jesus will be upset that you put your faith in a book instead of Him?

Read it a great many times, thanks.
Seems like people take it too literally.

Okay, I have not FLIPPED through it and read it. Yes, I studied it. Every year from the time I was 10 we had a yearly 'lets read the whole Bible'. So, I've read through it nearly ten times. And, after all that...
That's where I'm coming from.
My faith doesn't lay in a book.
Christ came to establish a Church not write an instruction manual. So, I don't rely on the book. I think it has good points as well as bad and is not literal.

My dad was a minister, my grandfather as well (has his own church), as well as uncles and so on. So, its like I didn't have mentors teaching along the way.

If you think the bible is just a book of stories, think again and watch some History Channel. They just had a program on that showed the actual places of the Exodus as well as proof that it happened just the way the bible told that it did. Solid proof beyond a doubt proving the validity of the "stories" you talk about. If I were you I would be reading more of the bible and relying less on what I am told is mere stories. Not just stories but history that proves Gods word is real.

I put my faith in the bible because I believe it is what it claims to be: given by inspiration of God. I don't believe opening it, flipping through it and tossing it aside is enough to say "you've read it through many times". Diligent study, and a heart that desires to know the truth, is what God is looking for. He reveals His truth to those who truly seek.
By the way, in the bible there is a verse that says God reveres His word "even above His very name". If He says it's that important, I pay attention.

A Christian's faith is in Jesus as well as the Bible. Jesus Christ, God's Son, quoted the Old Testament more than anybody else in the Bible.
But God does want us to grow closer to Himself—and one of the ways we do this is through His Word, the Bible. As its truth takes root in our lives, it begins to change us from within—which is one reason God gave it to us. He also gave us His Word to guide us and show us how He wants us to live. The Bible rightly says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105).
This is why I encourage you to make the Bible part of your daily life. Don't worry about what you can't do; focus instead on what you can do—and then do it. Even if you read only a paragraph or two each day, you still will learn more of God's love for you. You might begin with one of the Gospels (using a modern translation you can understand), or with the Psalms (the "hymn book" of the Bible).
Remember too that we learn the Bible not just by reading it for ourselves, but by hearing it preached and taught. Ask God to give you an attentive mind in church each week. Most of all, ask God to help you not only understand what the Bible says, but obey it. The Bible says, "Do not merely listen to the word. ... Do what it says" (James 1:22).
Have you ever taken time to read the Bible for yourself—not just a few sentences here and there, but honestly studying it to see what it really says?
The reason I ask this is because I find many people reject the Bible without ever actually reading it. Perhaps they've heard other people talk about it, or they may have been exposed to it slightly when they were children—but they haven't seriously examined it for themselves. But since the Bible claims to answer life's deepest questions, doesn't it make sense to at least listen to what it has to say? Of course it does.
This is why I challenge you to discover the Bible for yourself. Take one of the Gospels (which tell us about the life of Jesus) and read through it carefully. (I often recommend people start with the Gospel of John.) As you do, ask yourself if it sounds like something people just made up, or if instead it rings true.
I think you'll find it rings true—and for a very good reason: Jesus Christ really lived, and He really showed us what God is like. As Peter later wrote, "We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty" (2 Peter 1:16). Most of all, you will discover that Christ loves you, and life's greatest joy comes from following Him.

Because the Bible is the inspired word of God. And I don't put faith in the Book but the one who authored it.

The Bible is essentially the guidebook of Christianity. It's Christ's tool for us to follow Him. Don't you get the name BIBLE?

B.I.B.L.E. I put my faith in God and the Bible because God made the Bible though prophets and other holy folk. Pick it up and read it sometime. Good stuff.

Oh please, the Bible is the inspired Word of God. My faith is not in "a book"..my faith is in Jesus Christ...God Almighty, Creator of this world.
My faith is not based upon words of others, but of my own personal realationship with God, and my experiences.

I see the bible as a good reference, however, theres always something else out there. How many other gospels do you think are out there but the Catholic church hid them.
