It's a dissolution of a marriage less than one year old like it never existed. After one year, a divorce or death of one person are the ways to dissolve a marriage. Annulement also used to mean that the couple had never consumated (had sex or made love) during the marriage. With laws changing all the time, that may not be a factor anymore.
