My now 24 year old son also had very little hair and terrible cradle cap from infancy until he was about 6. Do not pick at it, that may cause injury to the scalp. What worked the best for my son was during his bath we would lather up his head with thick lather(using just a little water) with Johnson's Baby Shampoo and let it sit on his head throughout all the time he played in the tub and got washed, rinsing his head just before he got out. We would brush his hair/scalp everyday with a soft baby brush. That worked well to loosen up the crusty scales and most would usually come off with the brushing. Oddly, cradle cap is caused by too much oil and not because the scalp is too dry like I originally thought. It is basically the same thing as what we call dandruff in adults. At one point, our doctor recommended using a dandruff shampoo - Selsun Blue - which we used for about 6 months when he was 4 and was having a really bad time with it and the baby shampoo wasn't working anymore. It was hard to use because it caused stinging in his eyes and he hated the smell. I wouldn't use anything like that unless your doctor tells you to, though.

For infants with cradle cap:

Massage your baby's scalp gently with your fingers or a soft brush to loosen the scales and improve scalp circulation.
Give your child daily, gentle shampoos with a mild soap while scales are present. After scales have disappeared, you may reduce shampoos to twice weekly.
Be sure to rinse off all soap.
Brush your child's hair with a clean, soft brush after each shampoo and several times during the day.
If scales do not easily loosen and wash off, apply some mineral oil to the baby's scalp and wrap warm, wet cloths around his head for up to an hour before shampooing. Then, shampoo as directed above. Remember that your baby loses a lot of heat through his scalp. If you use warm, wet cloths with the mineral oil, check frequently to be sure that the cloths have not become cold. Cold, wet cloths could drastically reduce your baby's temperature.
If the scales continue to be a problem or concern, or if you child seems uncomfortable or scratches his scalp, contact your physician. He may prescribe a cream or lotion to apply to your baby's scalp several times a day.

Our pediatrition told us to use dandruff shampoo on cradle cap. Just put a little on it, rub it in & leave it for a couple of minutes while she plays in the tub, then rinse it off. It shouldn't take more than a couple of tiems to get rid of it. It worked almost immediately for my girls. I can sypathise though. My youngesthad enough hair on top for a hair bow when shee was 2 then she started pulling her hairbow out &hair came with it. lol Good luck!

There is nothing you can do to make it go away. My doctor suggested that I put some olive oil or kemi oil on it and take a very soft baby brush and brush it out but it eventually went away on it's own. It is nothing you can do and maybe try some medicated shampoo, or sulfur eight shampoo! Well, good luck hope it works out! If it worsens or it looks to bad call the physician or dermatologist!

Have you tried any of the cradle cap lotions, or baby oil, let it sit, then massage it gently with one of those soft baby brushes.

If this does not do the trick, ask the pediatrician. She may need to see a dermatologist.

Baby oil. Let it soak in for awhile.. Then comb it out gently.. it will soften the cradle cap and loosen it from the hair.

My daughter is 3 and she had the same exact problem her pediatrician told me to put selsun blue on her hair for 5 minutes and then wash it out. and to do that 3 times a week, and put her to bed with baby oil on her head and use a baby brush to try to get the excess off in the bath tub, it should go away you just have to keep at it
if this doesn't help go to www.babycenter.com they have tons of tips for infants and toddlers

you need to go to the doctor, but until then, pick it out when it is wet, or put some type of moisture in it and then pick. try to keep her hair moisturized as often as possible to help prevent cradle cap.

There are creams like at walgreens or walmart that say they are just for that. But if she's 2, its probly not cradle cap, and you should ask your doctor

Take her to the MD just as soon as you can. Try not to pick at it, could leave scaring and damage the hair follicle. I know this seem major and frustrating now, but just know this too will pass.
