I never used to drink, but all of a sudden i keep getting the urge and i promised myself that i would never drink. Also I have another question...
Does anyone know what an 18-30s holiday is? I have to ask two questions cuz this is my last chance for today.

U are half way there by admitting you have a drink problem. Before it goes too far, get help in the form of family support or medical/rehab help. Tell people about your problems. A problem shared is a problem halved.
Avoid 18-30 holidays. They consist of 18 - 30 year olds having an extremely good time - and there is always booze involved.
Good luck.

I had this problem about a year ago and I"m still dealing with it. When I started to notice that I was hurting my relationships with people, not to mention hurting myself, I wanted to stop. The best thing for me was to find something else to do instead of go out and party like I normally did. As long as I wasn't around it and I was keeping myself occupied, I didn't feel the urge anymore. Find a new hobby, a museum you haven't been to yet, go out to dinner with a group of friends who don't drink. Eventually the urge will be gone and you'll be happier that you are more in control.

Practical tips on cutting back or stopping:
http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/DrinkTooMuch.html

Alcoholics Anonymous is only for those who want to stop and is only successful for 5% of the people who join. Of the 95% who fail, many get worse, not because "it's a progressive disease that you have for life", but rather that AA programs people for failure.

from: http://www.orange-papers.org/orange-effectiveness.html

"There is also experimental evidence that the A.A. doctrine of powerlessness leads to binge drinking. In a sophisticated controlled study of A.A.'s effectiveness (Brandsma et. al.), court-mandated offenders who had been sent to Alcoholics Anonymous for several months were engaging in FIVE TIMES as much binge drinking as another group of alcoholics who got no treatment at all, and the A.A. group was doing NINE TIMES as much binge drinking as another group of alcoholics who got rational behavior therapy."

I think the question to ask yourself is if you're getting the urge because of curiousity or because you want to escape your problems? Drinking, or any other thing, should not effect your day to day life and how you live it. Addictions come in all forms.

Nothing is wrong with a little social drinking. But if you dont want to drink at all then avoid temptation and places where you might get tempted, at least until you think your strong enough to be in those situations with out giving in and drinking

What dappersmom fails to realize is that alcoholism is a disease, Just because she can keep from drinking that easily doesn't mean that an alcoholic can.

If you really think you have a problem, go to a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Move to a deserted island. As long as you are within 500 miles of a bar or a liquor store, you will drink. Oh, btw, if you're married, don't quit, it helps to be drunk.

It sounds like it may be referring to people who waste their lives. I wouldn't worry about drinking unless you get angry, violent, or other bads things. It's not a problem until it affects your everyday life like when your job suffers because you slack off because of a hangover. Drinking is not bad until other aspects of your life suffer.

1. Don't purchase alcohol
2. Don't put glass or bottle to your lips
3. Don't swallow it

Its really pretty simple actually, its not like alcohol follows you around trying to get you to drink it, you have to seek it out. I don't know what the holiday thing is.
