That is the first step, to see if they stayed here, and if they had children. 1781 is about 7 to 9 generations ago, so, there are web sites with others that know about this. I listed a few. Because they have him in common, their research is valid for you to use until they split off into a different line.

You can start by getting your Birth, and follow the path up. That may prove difficult, if you are attempting to prove your ancestry.
