The elliptical machine is much more effective than the stairstepper. You can go for hours on the elliptical and burn more calories, and the machine is gentle on the joints. The stairstepper makes you sweat fast, but is uncomfortable and can hurt you.

i've got found that elliptical machines do burn greater energy interior an identical timeframe than treadmills, a minimum of at a stroll/quickly stroll velocity. i haven't fairly run complete out on a treadmill so i'm able to't say what the correlation is there. only as an occasion, doing 20 min on the elliptical, i normally burn 250+ cals. & on a treadmill, it fairly is around a hundred and twenty. of direction, dropping weight is likewise a function of eating recurring, so i'm hoping that's being addressed alongside with exercising. suited desires.

elliptical! I have one and love it! You can use it for a long period of time because is has so little stress on your knees and ankles. (more time=more fat burning)
The stairmaster is alot harder to do, but let me tell you something that you might want to know....if you are only working out and not dieting, you could end up looking BIGGER using this machine. it will build you butt, thighs and calves, so if you are not restricting your calories, initially, you will build muscle under the same amount of fat on your body, so you could actually gain inches! Do the elliptical w/ low resistance for a long period of time ( 60 min) and you will shed fat quick!

I think a stair stepper works you harder in a shorter amount of time. I dont like them personally though. Ellipticals let you go much longer than a treadmill and are not as hard on your joints.

Elliptical trainer, hands down....less impact and greater overall cardio. Faster on the elliptical. But, don't take my word for it....go here:

I like the elipitcal machine, with all the repetitve motion, this one is easiset on my knees, unlike a treadmill or stairclimber, where after a while my knees get sore, the elipitical is more smooth movements, and it works your body as hard as you work it. so I like them a lot.
