My cat used to be so friendly to everyone...come up to them play with them, etc..
but now she is hissing at everyone all the time (except myself)...I'm thinking it might be because my boyfriend keeps messing with her, but I'm not sure? Any tips on why she may be doing this and how to get her to stop?

And just so everyone knows to clear it up....my boyfriend lives with me, and he doesn't hurt her...just likes to tease her...he doesn't do it as much anymore, the problem is he loves to pet her too--so even when he tries that she gets angry.

first train your boyfriend to stop messing with your cat. in addition, if your cat starts to corner him or goes after his arm when he puts it out toward your cat, tell him to keep it absoltuely still (like dead prey). my boyfriend's cat used to keep biting me, so eventually i had to give him a quick whap on the head, telling him NO. you have to do it immediately though, so your cat will understand that you and your bf are authority figures. don't do it repeatedly though.

what do you mean he "messes with her". the cat may not like your boyfriend and feels intimidated by him,, and when others come the cat is afraid it will be "messed with" by them too.

if it is not your boyfriend and your cat is just being bad ... take a spray bottle and spritz the cat in the face when it hisses, this usually does the trick, they dont like to get wet.

she or he is probably sad that her boyfriend is messing with her so just keep her away from people and the after a week if she does not stop send her to the vet to see if it is a mental problem not that she or he is mental but get your cat checked out.

Keep the boyfriend away for a while. Kitty could very well be jealous. Also - he is a visitor in HER house! And has to give her respect. And for heaven's sake - tell him to quit messing with her!

She's not use to strange people anymore. She is grown now and since she is a female, she is not as friendly. Now she's more territorial. So she will start hissing at them.
