I've seen a priest smoking once. I heard another talk about how he used to. Are they allowed to?

Sure, why not? They can drink too. I was at a wedding reception once where the priest got hammered and was funny as hell.

Smoking is an addiction, not a sin. It'll catch up with you in the long run, for sure. Most religious don't do it because it's a total waste of money (first the cigs, then the cancer) and a lot of them have made promises about poverty etc. which means not wasting resources. I know some do, it depends on the order how hard they frown on it. I'm protestant but it really bothers me to see people rush out of church cuz they've just gotta light one up!
