Unfortunately, the way anti-depressants work is to stimulate certain chemicals in your brain to make you feel better. It usually takes a while for these to build up enough to start making you feel better and take a while to get out of your system.
If you are on prescribed meds, do not alter your med plan without your doc's knowledge and supervision. Some people have had very bad reactions and done bad things to themselves or others when quitting meds.
For a natural way to feel better, you might try vigorous exercise like a brisk walk for 10 to 15 minutes a day. The endorphins produced can help you feel better.
ALWAYS discuss your feelings with your doctor or nurse.
THIS IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL ADVICE.

Don't quote me, but I think Xanex and Valium are like that (not sure if those are considered classic anti-depressants or not). For other drugs docs seem to suggest that there is a 10 day to 3 week period of taking them before a patient sees any positive effects. Talk to your doc about it... I'm sure there is something that would help. Also, if you are not ready to call your doc yet and want some great info, call your local pharmacy and speak to the pharmacist. Good luck :)

Xanax, Valium, and Clonopin are addictive drugs. You don't want to go there!!!
I work in a pharmacy and I've seen the results of doctors over prescribing those drugs. Eventually people will do anything they have to do to get their hands on their refills earlier and earlier. Way too many people want a chemically induced euphoria rather than taking a true anti depressant.

It would be nice if there was that kind of drug but there isn't. You have to take the medication on a daily basis because the drug actually keeps the chemicals in your brain in check. If you don't take the drug then the chemicals get out of balance and it takes time for the drug to equal them out again. However if you continue to take the medication then it keeps the chemicals in balance... hince why you have to take them everyday. But if you want a real answer then ask a phamacist or doctor.

No there is not an antidepressant that way. The drug tries to keep a level of Epinephrine - Norepinephrine and dopamine equally balanced to keep you stable.

Not that I know of. I take antidepressants everyday. They help take the edge off. Mine help with depression and anxiety. Make me a calmer person. I think that makes my family happier.

I take an anti-anxiety medication when I feel anxious and it helps with my depression also. It's called Lorazepam.
