I'm getting my wisdom teeth out on Friday and I'm very scared. But more importantly, my boyfriend's father's retirement party is on Saturday and I really want to go. Will I be able to go or will I be in too much pain? Any advice is appreciated. Also, am I being a big baby about nothing? It's only my two bottom because they are through and have cavities. I'm completely freaking out. Everyone says it's no big deal but I'm afraid of the pain when the anesthesia wears off. What if Vics just aren't enough? Help!

If your extraction goes anything like mine, you'll be just fine for the party. Mine took the doc about 45 minutes to give me the anesthetic and remove all 4, and wake me up, too. I went home, slept off the drugs, and was fine in about 24 hours. I expected it to be worse than it was, and I'm sure you will too.

Everyone is different when it comes to wisdom teeth, but it really isn't that bad.

When you wake up you will be in very little pain, & the dr's (dentist) will give you something immediatly. I would recommend relaxing all friday night & saturday morning... this will be a big help if you want to go out on Saturday night. Follow ALL of the Dr's orders so you do not have any complications.

If you feel up to (which I think you will b/c you are only getting 2 out & they are not impacted).. then go to the party. Just don't take too many pain killers or you will embarress yourself in front of your boyfriends family.

Also.. I do think that Vics will be enough. Try to take with food because they can give you an upset stomach.

Good Luck & Relax.. You will be fine! :)

I had all 4 out at once and there was no pain. Everyone is probably different, but I wouldn't worry about it too much! Some ppl bruise and swell up, but I had hardly any swelling and no bruising (even though I tend to bruise easily). You might not be in the best spirits to go to the party the next day, but you should be fine. You won't be able to eat much though. Until you heal a bit you'll probably want to eat soup or really soft foods. Oh, when I woke up from the anesthesia it was like I had been asleep for 2 minutes and it hardly felt like they had done anything if it weren't for the big pieces of gauze in my mouth. I would say that's the worst part to go through, having to keep that gauze in your mouth ~ it just feels weird. It's a good idea to rinse with salt water/saline every chance you get as that cleans out the incisions and helps them heal quicker. I found it helped me a lot. You might want to bring some with you to the party so you can rinse out any food particles etc.

DONT WORRY!! I had the same thing happened with me exactly!. When they calll you up for extractions they are going to just give you anesthesia which will be like me pinching you(No biggy!) and then they will do their thing BUT for me the anesthesia was very effective on me so i slept quite a alot after the surgery especially the next day. If you want my advice then that would be to please get a surgery after the party since you are looking forward to it soo much. otherwise i really dont think you would be comfortable @ the party with the opening of the jaw and everything because the pain will be there for atleast 1 week and you will be given pain killers so it would help!( I was given tylenol 3 and they didnt work at all so Motrin worked alot better it is anIbuprofen) there will be a bit of a swelling but within 3 weeks you will be like in heaven. Good Luck and Dont worry at all!

I've had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted, plus surgery on 2 of my teeth that were inside my gums! But there was nothing 2 worry about. I was on laughing gas and when I woke up, everything was fine. There was no soreness or anything. I just had to drink smoothies and shakes for awhile, but I can tell u that there was no pain for me. I'm 17, and I had all of that done when I was 15 or 16. Just take it easy and remain calm. I'm usually not afraid of the dentist and if anything, braces are the worst pain. Having all of that metal shoved in ur mouth is not pretty at all. Wisdom teeth extraction- nothing to worry about. Of course it won't be fun, but u might want 2 take some Ibuprofen (sp?) before the extraction. Good blessings!

The amount of pain varies a lot from person to person, if your teeth are already in, then you probably won't have much of a problem. Most people have pain/bruising because the teeth have to be extracted from below the gumline.
I had all four pulled at once (and they had to dig for a couple of them) and I didn't have any pain or swelling at all (couldn't keep food down for two days after.. but that was because I don't mix well with general anesthetic).
Tell your bf that you plan to go to the party, but won't know for sure that you can until the morning of. Everyone will understand if you can't make it because your mouth hurts.
(Be careful what you eat if you do go of course).

Girlfriend,

I understand your fear. I was there few months ago. I'm going to be honest with you. I got all my four wisdom teeth sugerically removed. I was put under anesthesia too. It was scary to go under the procedure. Your mouth really swells up and the first night you don't feel the pain as much until you wake up the next morning. I was in constant pain for 2 weeks (which slowly weared off) I had to take antibiotics to prevent infections and pain killers. Moreover, I DID NOT eat anything solid for the first 2 weeks, I probably really started eating after 4 weeks. Even then you mouth will bleed if you talk too much, walk around too much, eat something too hard. You have to be real careful in your choice of food. I say soup and yogurt is the way to go, broth based soups. (Nice way to loose some weight too! I did)

You can goto the party, just don't eat! You might be zoned out due to the medication. So I would advise that you stay home. Your mouth will be swollen too.

Just think of your recovery, who care about the party. If you don't take care of yourself you can end up with an infection in your gums and then have to go through the whole procedure again. If you DONT wash your mouth out properly and frequently, food can get stuck back there and cause infection, thus you'd have to get your gums cut into! And you dont want that. Also, make sure you wash your mouth out with salt water CONSTANTLY throughout the weeks of your recovery.

Everyone told me it was nothing. But I hated it and I am so happy I got all four out at one time. I just want to be honest....Don't go in scared, because remember recovery is based on your attitude towards it. If you tell yourself you'll pull through your recovery will be even quicker and better!

So just chill........get them out and you have less headache and toothaches to deal with!!

DON'T BE SCARED...Wisdom tooth extraction is not painful..you will get your teeth and gum anesthesized, after that you wont feel anything through out the extraction process(except a bit of pressure because anesthesias block all sorts of pain but they dont usually block pressure)so you will feel very very slight pressure(which may well be un-noticable)...by the time you will get your tooth extracted,an anti-inflamatory medicine will be prescribed to you and your anesthesia will wear off in about 2-3 hours so by that time your medicine will start taking its effect and you wont feel any sort of pain(you may feel a bit of discomfort but NO pain)...You will be able to attend the party but probably you would be advised by the dentist not to take solid food,so the only problem you could have is that you wont be able to take very solid food(because the extraction site is supposed to be kept clean for 1-2 days and wound is given time to heal) besides everythings going to be absolutely fine..

I've had mine out and it hurt a little when it was being done but what I did wrong was wait too long to take the pain meds after I got home and the freezing stuff started to wear off. Then the pain was bad! The next day I went to my sister's house for christmas and although my mouth still hurt it wasn't unbearable. I used the syringe to rinse out the holes way more than I had to so I avoided dry socket, which I've heard is nasty. You are not being a big baby. It hurts but you will get through it fine. Best wishes!

On day you get your teeth pulled, the pain is the worst. But it gets a lot better after you wake up the next morning. Kind of feels like a headache. Don't be surprised if you can't eat too many solids, or for that matter, open your mouth more than an inch on the day after you get your teeth pulled. But I think you will be ok to go to the party, if you keep your mind focused on getting better. Think positive during your recovery.

Don't freak out!!!
My wisdom teeth came in on top and because of cavities that were unreachable they needed to be pulled. That's it. The dentist (who should be a specialist, by the way) Will numb you and pull the teeth. Keep your eyes closed cause the dentist tools alone will freak you out by the sight of them. There was no pain when I had mine done. the voided area feels alittle funny but all in all I was great. No pain, no bad bleeding, nothing like that. You should be fine.
