That's a very good definition!
Mine would be: Tact is getting your own way without hurting anyone's feelings or having them realize what you are doing.

Something I've never been accused of understanding.
I don't understand why we have to tell people that they're little monsters who are making my time in the supermarket a living hell are wonderfull little angels.
Or why it's OK to see a child wandering around loose in a car & not tell the parents off. I'm the one who'll have to support that child for the rest of it's life after the accident that'll turn it into a parapalegic.
I've never understood why I should let grossly obese people come into my home & tell me about their service in Special Forces while distroying my furniture merely by sitting on it. (Ever notice that 75% of guys who claim military service claim that it was in Specal Forces?) I generally tell 'em to stuff the stories. No one walked down the parachute of another to hook a ride, after their own chute didn't open. That's a James Bond thing. I was in the military & I know people who we indeed in SF, they'd never let themselves become anything near obese. Even in a wheelchair, they're exercising!
Or the people who spent every dime they ever earned on fancy cars & nice apartments & now have no money to retire on. They think that they should be able to get that same apartment for the same rent they paid 20 yrs ago & fast service from the landlord for burnt out light bulbs.
I started saving for my retirement when I was 9 yrs old, I bought apartment buildings to have a secure retirement. I scrimped & saved, I worke d2 & 3 jobs & did w/out to do it. & they want the same retirement as I have. I don't understand why I shouldn't tell them to go "sit on it & rotate".
So, I have no tact. Oh well, I do have a very secure retirement.

Being as considerate of others as you wish they would be of you, but seldom are. Putting the "human" back in "being."
