I have a memorex dvd player, and sometimes I burn movie files onto a dvd, and the dvd player wont play them. But I have another dvd player also, and the dvd's play in that one. Whats wrong with the Memorex dvd player? Also I have movies in the AVI and MPEG mode. Does this make a difference? How do I convert AVI movies to MPEG's?

Nothing's necessarily wrong with the DVD player. Not all DVD players play all kinds of DVD discs.

You may have a player that doesn't play DVD +R, DVD -R, etc. Check you players compatibility and that may answer your question.

My guess is that your cheaper DVD player is the one that can play the AVI files.

DVD's - like the ones you buy at the store, are a specific file format and structure on the disk, not just simply an MPEG file.

There are a few options for you:

1) Read some tutorials on how to convert MPEG's and AVI's (or just about any video type) into DVD's. Doom9 and Videohelp are both great places to start. They also have links to all the free, legal software you need.

2) Buy a second DVD player that plays MPEG's and AVI's. By far the most popular one on the market today is the Philips DVP642 about $55US at Wal-Mart. There are a bunch more out these days. Go to the players list in Videohelp to see which players support which formats.

BTW - what are the makes and models of the two DVD players you have now?

Different DVD players play differnt formats. Make sure your memorex plays the format your tryin to play and make sure it notices the DVD type of disc you want to play. example DVD+R or DVD-R

I have an older Onkyo player that will not play any burned DVD's either. But my new one plays them great.

I bought my Onkyo DVD player when there were no titles in the rental stores, so its real old.

Nothing is wrong with it. I have different players that say in the instruction book that they may not play the burned ones. Check before you buy
