Is it because the Bible is full of so much crap?

In every other area of life, critical thinking, and thinking independently help tremendously. Why is it when it comes to God Himself I have to supress my brain's natural functions, lest I burn in Hell?

All of this Biblical crap is quite bitter for the ol' noggin to take in.

Actually, overseas and broke me old mate - I'm cheesed off reading about how "He died for us" and "He will forgive you" etc etc etc

IF a messiah popped down here for a cup of tea, he or she or it would change the whole word for ever, or words to that effect.

This Jesus guy - what did he achieve?
(Wow, this is really going to upset some people out there)

So, what did he achieve?
He has given people hope.
But the Jews seem to be managing OK.
They are still waiting for the messiah so they have something to hope for.
Can't think what else he achieved.
Cured a few people around at the time - but there's always been healers popping up every now and again.

Me thinks perhaps one day - just perhaps - something is going to happen and everyone will say, "Bloody Hell! We've all been wrong all this time.

Then they will come on to Yahoo Answers and say sorry and expect to be forgiven by whatever it was that turned up - or something like that . . . . . .OR

It's true - we are all food for some alien race who will be landing next week - Hungry!

By the way, sorry to hear about you being overseas and broke.
Here, have a few quid

You don't have to, and in fact it is necessary to understand what is going on here. The Old Testament of the bible explains the situation of why we are the way we are. Why do we have to die, why does God allow so much suffering, and what is needed to stop both the death and suffering beforehand.

The answer there (summarized) is that Satan brought into question whether anyone can remain faithful to God, since a perfect man (Adam) failed to do so. Since we inherit Adam's sin, none of us are able to do so (we will eventually sin, whether it is intentional or not, even something as basic as a white lie to keep from hurting feelings).

The new Testament of the Bible explains the answers to those questions. It shows God's plan for bringing us out of this mess and why we still continue to suffer even after the majority of the plan has already been executed. God's plan was to send Jesus on a mission with two goals. First, as the only other perfect man to have ever lived, Jesus had to show that a perfect man could stay faithful throughout life. Jesus did so by resisting temptation more than once. The second goal is to satisfy the needs of justice, equal payback to what was first taken. A perfect life was given to put us in this situation, a perfect life had to be given to bring us back out of the situation. Jesus did both and so we are now exonerated (forgiven). But only if we believe Jesus did do that; if we don't believe, then we are essentially saying jesus didn't die for me.

And finally, why the suffering continues. Jesus died, but not everyone knows about it yet. God has allowed Satan to continue in charge of the world until everyone has a chance to attain salvation (that is they have heard the message) and have a choice as to whether they will accept it or not. When everyone has heard and made their decision, this system of things ends and a new world order under jesus replaces it.

The rest of the Bible is just basically showing things we can do to show we believe in God. The basic moral ways to act, don't steal, murder, etc. things. But the first part of this message is why we need the bible and reason when we read the bible.

Quite the opposite is the case for those who become a believer in Christ Jesus. He actually expects you to think. To strive to be better and more intelligent.
But at the same time, if you think that mocking his family of faith and making a jokes as to intelligence, you are truely being the one who is most ignorant.
If you read the Bible, and actually do it with an open mind to see, that God has told this to you already.
If you have issue, take it up with the Author, God himself. As if you ask Him, He has no problem telling you the answer.

The bible is something that you have to just have faith in -
it tries to teach you lesson that will help you live a better life!
We are human so we do mistakes but the bible also shows us that we can make mistakes and still be good people that can get in heaven

but the best thing is just to live your life the best you can and treat other people the same way that you want to be treated and that is the best time

you don't have to live by or follow that bible to get into heaven
look at some of the priest and other church figures that don't live by the bible yet they have potential to be good people

People want guidelines; a quick, easy recipe that helps them live their lives. It's all about looking for easy answers and someone to rule over their lives. It's also a handy excuse to avoid looking at the harsh light of day.

Although some might try to prove god exists by saying something like "If I received the promotion, its because god willed it", the argument falls apart when there's a deadly earthquake or a tsunami, because that means god wanted a lot of innocents to die. That means either god doesn't exist or he's a big asshole who'd rather kill people than use his supposedly divine superpowers to save them.... and a god like that isn't worth worshiping.

Believe in god. To be a christian you dont have to read the bible in 1 day. You'll have a long life as a christian, and a long time to read the bible. Accept him in your heart, pray to him. Go to church! Jesus always loves you so dont love him just to go to heaven. Love him for what he did for you. Praise god in a fun way. Like, go on a fun christian site. Play christian games, dance to christian songs. Take a break. Just have fun by being a christian and be proud!

spread the good news

Honestly, if you've read the Bible and feel this way, then your brain isn't turned on in the first place. Einstein believed in God, and his brain was definitely on. I think you need to turn your brain on, read the Bible, and reevaluate your question.

You can be a Christian and not turn your brain off. It is called "selective Christianity". It is practicing religion along with a good old heapin' helpin' of common sense. More people should do it, too.

if you turn your brain off for any religion then you're not doing it right. if you are just posting this to disrespect christians then i guess you got what you wanted...but being a bigot is not pretty you might want to lighten up and believe what you want and let others believe what they want....and try to figure out what all your anger towards this one group of people is...what you're doing is no different than generalizing or targeting a group because of their difference and its called...bigotry. get enlighten or you'll forever live your life 'evangelizing' your unbelief.
