We are moving 25 minutes from our work. Right now we live very close so we've always been able to go home for lunch and let the dog outside, etc. He's a yorkie and doesn't hold his bladder very well. I'm worried about him being alone for all these hours, basically 6-5 mon-fri. What do u suggest. We've been thinking about installing a doggie door but since we just got a kitten we are worried that the cat would go out and get lost. Also we live in a very cold climate so wouldn't want cold air coming in from the doggie door. any suggestions?

They make doggie doors that have a matching collar so that strange animals don't come in. You will have to teach your dog how to use pee pads while you're gone. http://www.clickertraining.com

You could get a doggy door installed...say in the laundry room or something (if it leads to the outside). That way you can close the door to the laundry room...not have to worry about the cat getting out...and the dog still has access outside.

You can also cage the dog while you are gone. This really helps with having "messes" around the house when you get home.

Or option 3 is...doggy day care! I dont know where you are located, but there are tons of places around like that. They walk your dog...let them run around outside...the dogs seem to love it!

you could crate the kitten, or restrict him to a room,
if you install a doggie door, look for one that will allow for no cold air to get in if possible
you could also try setting a schedule slowly with your dog that will allow her to get used to not having you walking her as often.... this will take time,
may be consider a sitter

u can hire a petsitter.
or get a doggie door and put the cat access to 1 or 2 rooms, lock the kitten up i guess..=(.
make sure theirs ennough food and water for the cat and dog, separte the dog and cat i guess so the dog can go out side.

hire someone to come walk him in the afternoon. in a cold climate (especially if the dog is old) you'll want potty time to be in the warmest part of the day.
