I have an eight year old kitty. She will not drink water from her bowl. She insists on drinking it out of a faucet that is turned on. Also, when I wash dishes, she will sit at my feet and beg for me to drip water off of my hand to drink. I clean her bowls regularly and can't understand this. I purchased staninless steel ones because I read somewhere that cats don't like plastic. Also, I purchased one of those cat bowls that you plug in and it continually streams water. She didn't use it either. She will also get into the bathtub and lick it. Is she a weirdo?

LOL. She probably would drink water from a bowl, but she's trained you to allow her access to her favorite source. :-)

This is common with cats. She's no weirdo! :-) My husband once had a cat that actually learned to turn the water on for herself! At first they thought they'd accidentally left the water on, but then they caught her in the act! Lol.

We haven't had that, but our cats do enjoy hanging around the bathroom when the water's running or you're taking a shower.

Some years ago, we had a couple of old cats that came down with renal failure. We actually ran water in the bathroom sink to encourage them to drink. It IS fresh and they loved it and it helped their problem, although renal failure is almost always fatal in the end.

Later we bought Drinkwell fountains. The cats are fascinated by the water flow. We bought them, truthfully for the alleged health benefits. The vets that patented this fountain claim that it encourages water consumption; this in turn should help flush the kidneys & theoretically help renal function. Whether these claims are true only time will show, but in the meantime, our cats just LOVE these!

P.S.We've bought the Petmate, which "streams" water, but they don't like it as well.

I have three cats and one of them is like that. I just think it is a personality thing. If the cat is relatively healthy and isn't dying of thirst, I don't think it is a big deal. It maybe would be annoying but not that big of a deal. Also, you may want to when she is doing that, get a small regular people bowl and let her watch you fill it with water at the sink and put it near you on the floor while you do the dishes. She may drink some then. That worked with mine.

She is a weirdo! But most kitties are. She probably drinks the way she does because she was conditioned to as a young cat. If she were thirsty enough, she would eventually break down and drink from the bowl, but since she gets her needs satisfied elsewhere, she sees no reason to change.

I had a cat that used to steal my guppies out of my fish bowl all the time. After I stopped keeping guppies (for obvious reasons), he refused to drink from anything except the fish bowl. People thought it odd that I had a fish bowl full of water, but no fish, but it made the cat happy, so I figured so what?

Just love your kitty for the loveable weirdo that she is!

I have 5 cats. Most of them love to drink from running water. It's just something some cats like to do. I allow MINE to drink from the bathroom faucet when I am in there. They will actually refuse to drink from the water bowl (which is ALWAYS available), and just wait on the bathroom counter until one of my family goes into the bathroom.

My cat does that . She likes to drink it form the faucet and licks it from bathtub. But she will drink out of bowl sometimes and it is plastic. I don't know why , cats are unique in their own way. Sometimes she just lays in the bathtub.

My cat was the same way. Some cats don't like stagnant water no mater how fresh it is. I bought a filtrating cat feeder and that fixed the problem. It filters the dirt out of the water for you, and you can put ice in it to cool it off.

my boys love drinking out of faucets that are dripping, so we got them a drink well pet fountain and they love that, but still anytime they hear water running they have to be there to play in it. sometimes I will leave the faucet dripping for a couple of mins for them. they have even on a few occations turned on the sink and these are the knobs you have to turn.

Oh particular! each and all of the time lol, it makes me bounce up with fright and make an apology (cats call) and then I comprehend it rather is in basic terms between the cats rubber balls that i'm stepping on. it is so humorous while that occurs! lol

I don't know why but I think it's soooo cute! I use to have a cat that would get in the bathtub with me and another that would sit between the shower curtain and the shower lining while I showered!

i have heard of one other cat doing this any her owners decided to just let the faucet drip for her. Cats can be stubborn. If it bothers you that much maybe you can tempt her by putting gravy from soft food or fish juice from tuna cans.
