Religion is not the most important thing. Having Faith in God is. That means to trust & obey God. The works done because of faith (trust & obey God), assurance (hope) & love (unconditional) are everlasting.
Religion is just the rules people have written based on a belief that produce order in the house. Many of the religious acts are dead works. Works without faith are dead.
Let go of religion & let God in your life.

Good point. However, religion is one thing that can remain constant, stable, and comforting in life when everything else seems to go wrong. It can help people get through rough times, and act as a guide.

I think that religion was something that calmed people in the ancient times. If someone came around and said "live a good life and after you die you'll live in paradise" and you bought it, your menial labor job wouldn't seem so bad. So, people built their lives around religion, hopefully for good afterlife. Otherwise, farming your whole life would have sucked.
