apparently the damage was really bad...he said the boot had literally been crushed to nothing. bmw took the car back for a couple of months to fix it and have since returned it good as new. I was wondering, when he does come to sell it on what effect will this incident have on its value...does something like this show up on any checks, or if part exing, would he be legally obliged to tell a dealer about the collision. any help in clarifying this would be much appreciated.

If the car looks new and is normal, then its all good. However the seller is legally obliged to tell consumer about the history of the car, just to avoid legalities in the future, example the trunk lock is not working and the new owner finds out that the car had been in an accident before, new owner tires to sue your father..... so just to avoid problems, your father should tell.

If the dealership fixed it they are supposed to note it with carfax. Sometimes however they do not do this. I would recommend that you get a copy from Carfax in about 6 months and see what it says for the cars history. Whatever it says will have to be disclaimed upon the sale.

was it fixed under insurance?? then it will most likely show up on carfax when pulled..

im not sure if it will decrease the value unless it was given salvage title..but i think it will decrease the value by a bit since it was wrecked
