I really like South West Airlines they usually have good fares and internet fun fares.
They don't fly all over the country though. Where are you flying from?
When you go to the site click book travel under the suitcase then select your itinerary and then it will show the different fares.
Sometimes by changeing the day or airport(like Orange County instaed of LA) you can get a cheaper fare.

My husband got a cheap roundtrip ticket to Ontario California (near LA) Friday from Atlanta. We found his on Expedia. I think the total price was a little over $500. There were no-stops and he sat in first class. You can also look on Hotwire, Hotels.com, Priceline.com, Travelocity, and the Airlines' websites.

It depends where you are flying from. Going from New York, Boston or Washington D.C., I would recommend JetBlue. From Atlanta, Air Tran will get you there. Southwest also flies to California from different cities throughout the US. However with Southwest, you will probably have to connect in 1 or 2 cities depending on where you are flying from and where you are going to.
