My coonhound has two tricks--one useful and one that's just silly.

He touch-targets with his nose. I stick a finger out and say "touch!" and he touches my finger with his nose. I can hold my finger way up over his head and he'll jump, or I can bring it back down to my side to help him learn how to heel. That's the useful one.

The silly one is "spin". He spins around once clockwise.

Lately though he's been attempting to combine "touch" with "spin" for some reason, which just creates a very confusing situation!

Well, my last dog I had, Strider, was VERY smart. I was constantly thinking of what else to teach him, as he learned and remembered a trick within 5 minutes or less... He was a chow/pit mix. One thing I taught him was "Get on your mark". I had a piece of carboard that I used as his mark. I'd put it anywhere and tell him to get on it, and he'd go to it. They often use tricks like that for movie star dogs or even horses. I saw it on TV and thought it was awesome, and so I taught him it. ^_^ =P I also taught him all the basic obedience stuff, and paw, bow, high five, up, down (off), over, touch, and taste. For touch and taste, I'd hold a treat in front of him and tell him to either touch it with his paw, or lick it. So cute! ^_^ He was so good, I started teaching him sign language. Unfortunately, he died from heartworm treatment at 2 1/2 years old before I could finish teaching him SL... He was my best friend... Good luck teaching your dog new things. =)

Here are some ideas for cute new tricks. I too have a lab, and they pick these up pretty quickly. These tricks are not too difficult to teach.

*The Bang Bang Trick--pretend you're shooting her "bang bang" and she falls and plays dead

*Hide--Zoey hides her face under her paws when you say so.

*Bow--A good way to greet your houseguests. Very sweet.

*Limp/fake injury--Start with having Rover on a leash. Stand in front of him and loop the leash under one of his forelegs, so you can elevate it. Be gentle, as the leash is just a guide for Zoey. Now call her to you. ZOEY, COME, LIMP. If she takes a couple steps with only three legs, praise her! Now let her rest and try again.

*Wave--To be taught after she learns how to give paw.

A very unique trick is to teach them how to turn on and off lights(light switch on & off with their nose) its very cute. Or to get the mail. Regular tricks you can teach her are how to catch a frisbee or how to retrieve things. Golden Retrievers can learn lots of things. They are very smart.

Teaching them how to answer the phone is cool - so is teaching them to record the TV for you when you're on holiday ;-)

The best would be to teach them to play pool and poker - you can then make a fortune in the painting industry

My dog can "spin" which is pretty easy to teach just have a treat in your hand and make a big circle around the dog so he follows it and say spin. He can also "say please" which is him sitting up and begging. I have a golden too and that one took him more than a month to learn beacaue getting him to sit up without any support from me was hard. He can also "roll over" and "bang" (play dead) teaching him to "leave it" would also be a good idea. Good Luck!!

I always love seeing dogs when the owner leans over and a Frisbee is thrown by someone else. the dog runs and jumps on your back and in the air and catches the Frisbee.

Quickly: I trained my 5yo orphan pup jordan to stop barking at the neighbors dogs in just 2 days. It took practice but was worth it. we just used the Dog discipline magic system found on google.
