try more exercise...you have to make it fun, like a long walk for some sort of treat...yes, there's all sorts of meds and they all have "side-effects"

I doubt it too. My 2 1/2 yr. old goes for 12-14 hours without a nap. He just won't go to sleep. If I make him lay down earlier he just fights it for 1 or 2 hrs. If he goes to sleep before he's been up for at least 10 or 11 hours, he's up after 2 or 3 hours like it was his nap. Hopefully, he'll adjust before he has to start school in a few yrs. You could try Benadryl, that's what the doctor told me with mine, but it doesn't seem to work on him every time.

I don't know the answer, but there should be.

My son has had trouble sleeping since he was born. The NICU had to find a separate room for him because he was affecting the vital signs of the sick babies around him. He never slept but would doze provided that he was held. He would only doze for 40 minutes at a time.

He has been noticeably extra alert since then, but not much ADD or ADHD. He still can't get to sleep at night. I give him Melatonin.

I just took my son to the doc this morning for bronchitis. He has not slept longer than 30 mins at a time for 3 days now. I asked the doc about giving him some NyQuil to knock him out and the doc told me that he just read a new study that says most meds that make adults drowsy react oppositely in kids. It hypes them up instead!! Good luck finding something. Maybe you could give her a warm bath with some of the Johnson & Johnson's calming bath wash. It works with my daughter sometime.

They have definately been over medicating kids these days. You should try a more positive alternative. Try making different accomidations to her diet and life style. Putting her to bed 30 minutes earlier every night. Not giving her sugary foods or drinks about 3 hours before bedtime. You can also try the "sleepy time tea" by Celestial Seasonings. Anything but drugs, they are worst for kids then we think they are!

there is a very safe sleeping aid and most people don't know about it and perfectly safe for children.
Tums or Rolaids work great for young and old.. Both products main ingredients are Calcium and Magnesium and have the ability relax a person and help settle them down.

I mentioned to my doctor a while ago about perhaps using a sleeping or relaxing pill to help me ever so often and she told me about the Rolaids and Tums and said she has used them on her children. And it works!!!!!

Ask your doctor. Some friends have a toddler with cerebral palsy who has trouble sleeping and the doctor has prescribed him a very low dosage adult sleeping medicine that has to be specially mixed at a pharmacy.

Medication is not the best thing for kids, even aspirin is a no-no, her not sleeping is most likely a lack of exercise, kids who wear themselves out playing, usually sleep like a stone. Anyway, I hope things work out :)
