Please don't give me the whole "Charity" excuse! Charity doesn't build 50 feet high mansion-style 10 million dollar church buildings!

When churches don't pay sales tax on the things they buy; cars, busses, signs, etc, it raises the tax burden for everyone else.

As much as the money would help the country, it would also give power to the church. After all, if churches pay, shouldn't they get something in return? This would result in taxes being spent on improving churches and possibly missionaries. Obviously, this tax payment would end the seperation between church and state. The money's not worth the religious discrimination.
By the way, people don't pay less on taxes for being Christian. The tax exemption only applies to running a religious building.

No. Except for the big mega churches, many churches aren't doing well people wise and financial wise. Many churches are closing down or getting rid of programs because they don't have enough money to support them. Despite popular belief many preachers and staff work 40-70 hours a week and make no more than a 5 figure income. Most of the income coming in goes to keep the place running and the rest goes out to the community/county/oversees. Many churches pick up where the government leaves off. IE- supplies/tutors for low income public schools, inexpensive preschools, food for military families, job training for unemployed, temporary shelter for the homeless, supplies for Katrina victims, workers/supplies to build homes for habitat for humanity and etc. Who gives the food, supplies and etc that the churches donate? Members of the church. Churches give people inexpensive alternatives. Churches may not "pay their share of taxes", but they also aren't supported by the government.

Absolutely! This topic has bothered me for some time. Churches are profit-generating tax shelters! Here is a real-life example of why churches should pay their fair share of taxes: I knew somone (ex-husband's family) who paid his daughter's college tuition to the church as "tithes", then the church turned around and paid the same amount in a "scholarship" to the college. The college was a non-accredited "Christian" college that cost somewhere around $20,000 a year. Under this arrangement, the guy was able to write off his daughter's entire tuition as "charitable donation." How's that for hipocrisy???
Churches do more harm than good. They're curtains for criminals, bigots and opportunists. Why do so many recruit new members from jails?

certain! it is something i have felt very strongly about for a lengthy time period. No organization (and that is what church homes are) can ruin out with out paying taxes. exceptionally operating a significant element scam like the church homes do. this is continuously wonderful how the church homes in the course of the U. S. all favor to contain themselves in each portion of politics and authorities and they are allowed to even as they don't even pay taxes to a similar authorities that grants them a lot power. bear in mind in this united states of america we've seperation of church and state (we do, so do not tell me we do not) so why can we enable those religious establishments ruin out with this? this is clone of the catholic church with the birth control. Why are they allowed to back out of something anybody else has to do? till they pay taxes like anybody else, they shouldn't get a say. extremely the arguement will be made that church homes are anti-american except they pay taxes.

no they dont but the people who go to my church built a new sanctuary with our own money, 2 million of it and we have 3 thousands members. YOUR tax money doesnt build churches, donations from the parishoners does. So this also means when I send my kids to private school I shouldnt have to pay any taxes towards the public school system right?

Churches are made up of groups of people, each who pay their fair share of taxes. Why should the believers be singled out to be double taxed???? Churches are supported by the people in them who have already as individual citizens, paid their share so where's your logic in that?
