given both situations you pose...they probably beak even...although i dont think your scenario happens too often since most people check what they get before they drive away

Although I have been frustrated by the occasional mistake, I don't believe it's intentional.
You have to consider this is essentially a minimum wage job, and things fall thru the cracks. I stopped going to one place that constantly messed up and I phoned and told them. Actually, I spoke to the manager. It didn't help their business, and anyone who's sharp will do the same.
I will say this, as well. EVERY TIME I've called a fast-food place and told them their mistake, they apologized and asked me to return, and just tell them what happened, and they'd give me a replacement, which they've ALWAYS made good on.
Finally -- sad as it sounds -- it's up to us to make sure we don't get ripped off. It's a drag, sure, and quite often, I'll pull over to the side of the road, and double-check. (I'm usually ordering for 4 people, so if it was just me, I'd check the items right there outside the window).
Do I feel guilty if they give too much? It also depends what they messed up on, since they aren't allowed to accept returned food since that's the law, and they don't know if I've tampered with it. I usually just return money, if the mistake is significant.

I've been working for McDonalds for 9 yrs...it's not done on purpose. You should check the bag before you drive away. If it's a local fast food place in your own town and you are missing something then call the store. The manager wants to know and will always take your name and give you your item next time you come in.

they probably mess up 40% of the time. so say like....maybe $40 a day? I sometimes feel guilty when i get extra, but then i realize the drive though line is too long to go back. soon, the guilt is gone and i think "they owe me." lol, no but that happens to me alot where they forget something and think that also when ppls are missing something, if they catch it soon enough they just go back and say you forgot this... or the next time they are there they could take their receipt and say that the place forgot to give them something and most of the tive they will give it to you because hey, you thinnk the taco bell guy really cares?

If everybody would call and complain when something is missing when they get home, this wouldn't happen as often. Who knows how much they make. And no, I do not feel guilty when I get too much food because 90% of them are overpriced anyway, and we get cheated out of something about half the time.

IF they ever gave me too much, I would not feel guilty. I do not know why they always short you on the drive through. I don't know how much they make by doing this, but they do lose business because I will choose another place next time.

They probably make a hell of alot! Charging someone for something they don't receive. Maybe the employee is pocketing the money in an attempt to raise their hourly wage? lol. And no I don't feel bad for getting too much, I've been shorted enough. I guess checking the order is the appropriate thing to do.

i don't know how much they make by not completing them, but i know if you are extremely persuasive, and a single mother of 3, tight on money and time, they can be "compelled" to correct their shortages by sending out an employee (even more than 5 miles) in their own car to bring what they forgot! key=be firm, and polite, and continue to ask for the manager until someone brings your shortage to you.
slightly guilty i guess if given too much, unless returned! lol!!!

1) they don't make anything off it the the sack of stuff is sitting there getting cold and they toss it (loose money)
2) You are suppose to call and complain to the restaurant with the number on the receipt ...........they will send you coupons for free food (loose money)
3) Lots of screw ups from drive thru for you--------company looses a customer-----you won't come back (Loose money again)
They Don't make money---you benefit
if they give you too much it is usually because they screwed up someone elses order----doesn't that make up for when they short you

A substantial amount, but most of it comes from commissions they get from petrol companies who understand human psychology: logically, it's worth bringing the car to a screeching halt and driving back 13 miles because one bag of medium fries is missing.***
***Human psychology's a funny thing: it's NEVER worth bringing the car to a screeching halt and driving back 13 miles because you've been given an extra bag of medium fries.

everyday i might want to ought to assert McDonald's. i love the McDouble, fries, and McChicken. yet, at the same time as BK has the Double Cheeseburger on the dollar menu, i bypass there (even even with the undeniable fact that the fries suck) The burgers on the Wendy's dollar menu are more desirable helpful than McDonald's yet no longer as sturdy because the double at BK at the same time as they have it. The 5 layer .89 cent burrito at Taco Bell rocks!
