So sorry Michele, our hearts go out to you. At least she didn't suffer.

The only way you'll know (possibly) why your cat died is to have a vet perform a necropsy (that's the animal version of an autopsy).

Seven is NOT old for a cat. Most indoor cats that are well cared for, given good vet care and nutrition live about 15 years or so.

It's possible she died from HCM, a fatal heart condition that can claim a young cat or kitten at any time.

Perhaps she had a blockage or a tumor you didn't know about.

Cats tend to hide sickness. In the wild, a distressed animal attracts predators.

In any case, my condolences. So sorry for your loss. When the time is right, a new kitten or perhaps a needy animal from a shelter will help ease your pain. Never *replace* this cat, but add a little joy to help with your sorrow.

She might have had a kidney infection or ate something that she was allergic to. I personally don't think that 7 is old for a cat, indoor cats typically live longer than outdoor cats. I have a cat that is 5 1/2 and she still plays like a kitten. If you have any doubts about what happened, have your vet do something like an autopsy, and then you can find out exactly what happened.

I am sorry for your loss. You can feel glad that she simply went to sleep and did not suffer. Remember the good things and you will find that time will lessen the pain of the loss of you kitty.

Just like any other animal they all have things that go wrong sometimes. It is not unheard of for humans to suddenly drop dead or go to sleep and not wake up and it is later found that had a congential defect of the heart or brain or artery that gives up and causes the death.

Just a suggestion, don't go out right away and get a replacement kitty. Wait a while then think about it. Then if you decide to get another one go ahead.

I'm really sorry. My cat of nineteen years has been gone about a year now and I still dream about him, but he died of kidney failure as most old indoor cats do. Your cat sounds more like a stroke was the cause That can happen at any age for no particular reason.

Sometimes cats just die... Either something biological is wrong, or they just pass away. It's a scientific mystery, but that's what cats do. Seven years is not that young, but it is not old either. I had a cat who lived to eleven years and just passed away from an unknown cause, and now I have a cat who is six years. Hopefully that doesn't happen again, because I love my cat. My condolences on your cat. May you find another companion that you will love just as much.

My last cat choked and died while i was tickling him, he went all stiff and his hair stood on end and then that was it. I tried to help but the shock was too much, he is now buried in our garden.
My advice is to grieve for a while and then go get a completely different kind of kitten and start again. It may sound a bit harsh but it does help, it worked for me...
It's strange but my cat now sleeps where my old one is buried, he was only 5 years old...

She could have had a defective heart or some other internal problem. She could have been bitten by a poisonous spider (or snake if she goes outside at all). I am glad she was peaceful. There is no comfort for losing a little creature that has been such a loyal, loving companion for so many years.

probably died of old age. I'm glad it didn't suffer and I'm sorry for your loss. grieve mourn do what you need to to get through it and take as long as you need to get through this loss and then you can if you like get a new cat. but not before you are ready and you may not ever be ready for a new cat and that is fine too.

That's terrible, my cat died last year, but she was 15 and not happy, she was very ill. It's tough losing a pet, some people don't understand that

Oh, how sad, you must miss her very much.
That happens sometimes, there are plenty of things that can cause this to happen.
You may want to take her into the vet to determine cause of death just in case there is some kind of hazzard in your home that you are unaware of that could cause the death of another pet down the road.
